I popped in to Cabela's tonight and picked up a Threadfin shad and a Bluegill in the Bandit 100 series that I'll take up to the lake with me on Friday.

I have not been here long myself but on one of his recovery visits here I saw some of his responses and just the presence and love was felt all over.
Sad to see such a great guy go but the Lord has his own plans for all of us. Rest in quiet peace and serenity big guy. |

I've been away from the computer for a while. Did a little posting here and there the last couple weeks, mostly from my cell phone, but thought I'd take a few minutes to post some things about our friend.
I got to meet Zooker last July. I headed down to Spruce Pine, NC to check out a couple custom crankbait manufacturers and to do a little gem hunting. Zooker sent me a long list of guys he knew from the state that made crankbaits. We met up as I was heading home and of course Zooker brought along a couple boxes of his favorites. He always posted pictures of his boxes of baits but these were the ones that he didn't post. One thing he told me was that he had studied geology in college. Never would have thought that. He enjoyed looking at the gem stones that I had found while in NC. We only chatted for 45 minutes or so but it was a great visit. Another thing that I'm going to post that might surprise everyone is that Zooker told me that he had a daughter in the DC area. A couple years ago he had planned a trip up to fish the Potomac and had made plans to fish with Capt Mike, myself, and a couple others. Due to a knee injury he couldn't make it. He spoke with me over the phone to let me know he wasn't going to make it and that he wanted to meet and fish with us but the biggest disappointment was that he was going to miss seeing her. That was his main goal of the that trip. I'm going to head down to NC at the end of the month again. I had plans to stop in and visit him if he was in or out of the hospital. If I'm close to his home I'll see about stopping in and visiting with his family. |

Well I don't view much this time of the year. I am playing to much golf but I am awake with the wide eye between alarms at 2:30 am and decided to check some post. Well, I see we have lost a fellow fisherman and nice guy.
My prayers to the family, and I feel that Zook would want everyone to take a few seconds to think about eternity. We will never know how many lives that Zooker may have touched and his passing may give an opportunity for all of us to think about Jesus Christ as the one that so loved us that he did for us before it is to late. I am not for sure how many fishing tales we may get in and get to share but forever seems like a long time to me.

You know when it comes to technical questions, stuff about motors, boats and the like...the board really misses zooker. I have replied to a couple threads in the past few days, just trying to steer inquisitive fishermen in the right direction best I can...but I sure wish I could ask zook for backup on some of these things cause he and laser knew....

Nope, you aren't, Billy. Just knowing he is not around makes me sad. I miss the phone ringing. He even had his own ringtone.

WE both had a love for Lews Speed Spools. I remember finding 2 mint condition Speedsticks at a pawn shop. Zooker wanted me to go back & buy them. I put it off & i get a message from Zooker wanting to know when i was going ship them. I had'nt even been back to the pawn shop. But i went back for Zooker. Only to see that they were gone. I don't think we ever had a conversation that didn't include them Dam Lews Reels. Now i wish i would've baught them 2 poles for him.

I used that Bandit Series 100 everyone told me was Zooks favorite color , Tenn. Shad. I took it with me to our local city park. Lots of small bass in that lake. Funny thing, I tied it on for Zook , and caught two fish. Both a good 3-5 pound catfish. I laughed figuring Zook would probably rather see me catch decent sized fish , rather than those little fish Bama catches ...Sorry Bama.
