Refilling boat batteries.

Maintaining correct water levels in my boat batteries always seems to be a pain. Anyone using the Flo-Rite auto systems. The web site makes it look fool proof, but I am skeptical. I might do a better job of battery maintainance if all I needed was a gallon of distilled water and a squeeze pump. Between poor eyesight and shaky hands, I always create a mess. Any input would be appreciated.

I always use those black pour bottles (similar to a hand held garden sprinkling can) that have the spring loaded nozzle. When it quits gurgling, move to next cell. Never over fill it with these. They sell them at Wal Mart in the automotive area near distilled water Under $5.

Never have seen an automatic water unit installed in a bass boat and know nobody that has one. Sorry....I can't help you there.

I've heard of some people using the little ketchup/mustard squeeze bottles like you find in diners and some fast food joints.

I just use a paper dixie cup and squeeze it to a funnel like point to pour the water in.

I have used a similar system and it is pretty foolproof and very easy to use. If your batteries are difficult to get to I highly recommend something like this. It is the easiest way I have found to maintain batteries, especially if they are difficult to reach in the engine compartment.

A turkey baster works well.

I eliminated the issue by going to AGM batteries. Not a cheap fix, but I won't ever go back to a wet cell. Had too many crap out on me because I was terrible with adding the water. You can fix stupid (me) - it's just expensive to do so...

Same here on the AGM batteries. On my second set and I do not plan on changing back to wet cell.

If you can swing it AGM is the way to go.

I get a gallon bottle of distilled water at wally world, a buck, and use a fish tank air bubble hose to siphon the water into the batteries. Works great, just a little bit of water comes out so no spillage all over the battery and just give it a squeeze to shut off the flow between holes.
