Motor Leaking
Guys,
On our motor, there seems to be a mysterious drip of gas/oil ever so often. It drips from under the motor cover, but seems to be running from somewhere around the fuel hose connector, especially the male end. Here's the whole engine: Here's a close-up. You can see the drip, (dark blue spot), about 2" below the cover latch: If it helps, the engine is a 1960's, (I think), Johnson Sea Horse, 5.5 horsepower. We replaced the coil when it was given to us and it runs like a top every trip. Overall great engine. Thanks, |

On those older motors the O ring in the actuall fitting gets worn pitted or otherwise compromised. Best thing to do when they start leaking is find a new one and install along with a new fuel line going to pump and on the tank side as well if you havent done so already. The tank end is usually 30 at Wally world and the fitting can sometimes be bouth there as well. They use to run 9 or so. By replacing the lines and the fittings you ensure that you are getting everything your pump can pull and keeping your engine from leaning out which is WAY bad.

Laser,
Thanks man. We're going to our local tackle shop tonight and they have an awesome boat repair section. I was talking to dad about buying that part last time we were there, but he said to wait and see if it leaks again. We'll be sure to pick it up tonight. |
