My dad's latest work (rod building)
So its been really rewarding and cool watching my Dad build rods again..When I went over there yesterday to go fishing with him..He showed me his re-build on his old Loomis rod that he custom built around 14 yrs ago if I remember right.
He's really liking the split grips,so he wanted to convert it. It stripped everything but the guides and rebuilt it. Needless to say I was blown away by his work and felt that it deserves some recognition...His not satisfied with the Double Chevron butt wrap so he'll probably re-do it,but what really amazes me,is how with all the damn forums and youtube viddys and a sea of vast info on-line..He still figures out a way to up the anny!..This time,it was with polishing off the edges of his winding checks to give them a gold/silver look instead of just striaght gold...Its those little things that make such a huge difference and set off a custom build..Ive never seen it done before..Im sure other builders do it,but they looked great!! And I so happened to have my camera

Wow! Great looking stick your old man made!
Is it a shorter rod too? Looks like a pretty short handle... spinnerbait rod? So did you guys get to fish together, and catch some fish with that line?

Awesome looking rod! I would have personally made the handle longer, but that's just me.

Bassboss I think the rod is a 6'2''...As far as the application,He uses it for mutiple things.Like all his rods....But I will say spinnerbiats is his go to lure..He could pick one spinnerbait and out fish me while I go through everything in my tackle.lol BB- He prefers the shorter grips I think.Since he liked fishing the pistol grips back in the day... Plus extending the grip on that rod would require alot more work and re-positioning than he probably wanted to do... But really shorter grips seems to be perfect for his style of fishing.

Waffle, your dad has some serious talent! That is one beautiful rod. Have you informed him that he could get some custom order customers right here?

That is some very fine work.
I have to stop reading your rod threads, waffle. It's making me want to give rod building a try. I just don't have the time right now to start a new hobby!

Nice job,for jerkbaits and spinnerbaits that short handle is the way to go,for frogging etc I do prefer a longer type handle for a 6 lber with 4 or 5 lbs grass attached its easier to get one out.Depends somewhat upon the application its being used for.
Again that one is quite nice. |

To rebuild the handle/threadwork probably took him anywhere from 6 to 10hrs roughly guessing......Ill tell you that rod building is a very rewarding hobby if you ever decide to get into it....expensive!,but rewarding
