Topwater???
I'm really excited to break out the topwater this year but i think it is still too early. How long should i wait before topwater starts to be effective?? I've been trying them but no hits yet. thx

I think top water "season" is shortly after they get done spawning. Right after or a few days majority of the bass spawn they can be slugish and stressed so they may not crush a top water. I've heard poeple getting a few fish in spring on top water, but I never have, I think there are way better ways to catch spring bass than on top.

I would say that a couple weeks after the spawn the bass should be starting to react to top waters. I have noticed those of us in the midwest have been experiencing very poor results on the water fishing period. I think it is due to the harsher than normal winter plus the very extended cold spring this year.

Yall should be done spawning in south carolina. They normally start spawning when the water hits the mid 60s.
Topwater is one of those funny techniques that can suprise you. I've seen them hit much earlier in the year. Dad nailed a few a week or so ago on the elk in north alabama fwiw.

Once the water temp hits the upper 50's I've caught fish on topwater. The good post spawn topwater bites is starting to get going here in VA. Another week or 2 and it should be rock'n!!!
Yes Mr. Photo... should be anytime now for you!!
