Fly Rod For Bass?
The baitmonkey has had very little luck convincing me to buy anything lately so he has taken a different approach. He has planted the seed to buy a fly rod set up, which I reasoned he wanted me to use it on panfish and such, but does anyone use it for bass? I know that you can but does anyone?
If so what weight rod do you use? |

I've been told for bass, most lean toward an 8 weight.

My buddy Alan is the fly fisherman, but he often uses a flyrod when we go fishng for both largemouth and smallmouth. I personally am too much of a bull in a china shop to do it, but he loves to catch bass with his.

I flyfish for bass. Its not any more effective than spinning and baitcasting tackle, but its always fun to do - a sort of twist on just regular topwater is fishing for bass with dry flies. Not only do you get the huge strikes and swirls, but you will get some great fights on the lighter flyrods. I would recommend anything from a 6 wt to and 8 wt, 9 footer. I normally use an 8 weight, but went for a long time on a 5 wt and did just fine throwing large dry flies.

Son uses a 10 foot 9 weight for bass. I picked the outfit up from Cabela's for him last Jan for his birthday. He also ties his own flies. If you want more infornation PM or email me and I'll get the info from him. Just don't remember all that he uses
