A surprise catch
I took my son out on Sunday for a couple of hours to go after trout and bass. I managed a couple of small trout and my son managed a few break offs. I am still trying to convince him that landing a trout on 2 lbs test shouldn't be treated as though he has a marlin on the other end.
Sadly, my son finds fishing frustrating boring and yesterday was probably one of our last trips together. The one bright side was a surprise catch early in the morning. I was filling the water bobber. I had a 2 foot leader and a bare hook in the water while I did so. After the bobber was filled, I couldn't figure out what I had snagged the hook on. Well, it was this. I haven't gotten one so shallow this late in year before.

That is a nice by-catch! Don't worry too much about your son's feelings toward fishing. That probably will change in time.

Thats a pretty nice suprise catch. And I feel your pain with your son. Neither of my two boys want to go fishing anymore.

Mine have been begging me to pull them from the catfish pond and to go bass fishing. I am skeptical though because I know their patience level is knee high to a grass hopper. I have been trying to ask around though for permission to some farm ponds. I just don't have much confidence in our local waters for keeping their attention. Maybe this spring we will try some beatle spins though and go from there.
