It finally happened
Was fishing last weekend and went to cast a horny toad. First time it ever happened my rod broke in half on the cast. I've broken tips off a few times before. That and bumped 2 setups overboard but they floated and i got them back. Learning to be more careful with a front deck instead of a deep v.

Ouch! Breakage like that is either a defective rod blank, or previous damage to the blank. Something as simple as a scratch on a graphite blank can weaken it enough to snap - relatively cleanly - similar to the way glass is cut by scratching the surface then applying pressure to snap the glass. Defective blank can snap cleanly or splinter. I don't know how you store or transport your rods, but mine are always kept in rod socks in my rod lockers or when in the truck to protect them from damage. The socks are also a great way to color code your rods for easy identification in you rod l I cover.
