I've been wondering about that too. He uses really big, yellow, foamy looking things on the butt of his rods. I don't know what they are.

It's a NUT SAVER. A bit of padding for wnen you stick the rod butt in you groin when fighting a fish.
It looks like foam, probaly a float just in case one of those expensive rods gets kicked overboard. |

It's a float...but honestly think I'd rather replace an outfit than try to fish with a goiter hanging off my handle, not to mention the fact that they're butt ugly and stupid looking.

Yes Joe effective 3/1/12 they will be marketed as the E.B.P.
elephant-butt-plug In all fairness to them I understand that a lot of saltwater guys use standup tackle and this prob is a good alternative to a belt, but come on how many times do you think Shaw sticks that punkin in his gut and gets a drink of gatoraide while the 1st mate pours water on his reel during the 2nd 100yd run of a 5lber? You'd be hard pressed to convince me that this isn't a classic example of using something you'd never use in real life just to stick a few bucks in your pocket. But hey.......honestly if I was a celebrity fisherman I'd probably milk that chamois for all it's worth too. It's not like he's suggesting we all get 666 tatooed on our foreheads.

I kinda like it when I get that bruise on my midsection from a long day of setting hooks and fighting fish. It's the tattoo of a great trip, like bass thumb.
And like everyone else said, those things are butt ugly! |

$16 a piece?? I'd rather wrap an old sock around the butt of the pole. I'm not paying that kind of cash for a defective beer coozie.

Yeah it is. That guy is just about as bad as Bill Dance or Roland Martin, he will endorse anything at all if there is a dime to be made for him. I don't doubt that he is a good guy but I honestly can't stand to hear he talk because it's always shameless plugs for products that are most of the time worthless.

Speaking of Roland................. he had one of them things on the butt of his flipping stick in one of his shows. Fishing Okeechobee in the reeds and he was really rearing back on his rod to leverage bass out of them. Wouldn't think he'd need a butt cushion with the gut he's got.

Helicopter endorsement!
Saw today on a show...Roland Martin's very own line off butt plugs...I swear, thats what he called them.
His show was on flipping and pitching Ochachobee (sp). And he explained why he used it, for control flipping fish from hole to boat in one swing. Says sometimes when getting a smaller fish (3lb.ish) they go 5-6 feet in the air. Now with all his endorsements I think he was thinking it was a Helicopter lure he was plugging.

I would just buy a fleshlight and strap on down on the butt of the rod.
Your rod could be multi-purpose then, plus it could give you something to do when the bite is slow lmao |
