HB 597C DI or a 788C DI
I am getting my first boat. I am debateing on which one of these units to purchase. The 788 is only $150 more and I would be able the ethernet it to my 1198C SI. I am not sure of all of the exact differences between the two units. I have looked at he HB website, but they are very vague. Would it be worth the extra money for the 788. I will be putting it on a 2012 Lowe Fishing Machine 175. I will be fishing mostly lakes here in MN like Mill Lacs and doing river fishing on the St. Croix. Just looking for some opinions.

Hmm id get the 788 ci with the xnt90 transom transducer(not the wifi wonder) on sale now at the bird store for 623.I checked the interlink capabilities it will with an 1197 but not an 1198 csi. Many of the c2 or sc i units wont interlink or even talk to each other let alone another model, and not the fault of the new model but of the interlink capabilities of the sc 2 i or combo thereof.
The 788c or ci for that money with transducer and built in maps instead of uni maps are or is a decent price for a dual beam. But not something one can link with that 1198,not much of anything can link with it. Link is highly overrated and if it could since a two beam would view as a two beam not as an 1198 beyond its capabilities,my opinion as know they are backwards compatable just within the capabilities of the unit generally.Going the other way its sending two so viewed as two.And if compatable about all you could share would be tracks paths and waypoints, you can save those to an mmc card and share, also get the free software from bird and do it on a computer save to a card and insert. I dont own interlink going by what ive been told. But its a decent buy for a stand alone, dual beam. While those maps are ok not high detail a lakemaster card of your area would be more detailed. I was not going to use interlink but link using Ethernet. Would they talk then?

I believe that the 1198 is compatible with all the same units as the 1197, as the basic difference is processor speed and memory. The reason it is not listed in many of the compatibility charts is because it is a newer unit and did not exist when the information was printed.
Interlink should work fine between the units, but a quick call to HB customer service would be your best bet.
