Tuning?
I've heard of tuning crankbaits but have never practiced it. I guess because i was never shown how. Does anyone do this and does it really make a difference? I use cranks and catch fish but have not done anything to the crank itself. Thanks!!

if the eye of your crank is off center towards one side or the other it will cause your crank to not run true. if you straighten it back out this will make it run more true and the action of the bait will be better. this is the only way i tune lures.

Ah ok so it is something used to correct a problem with a crank, not exactly to specifically make it work better...thanks!

Sometimes, tuning it to run right of left can be a "GOOD THING"! Such as when runninmg parralell to a rock ledge, and have it banging into the rock, or to get it to go under docks, and bang off the posts.

Most of the time tuning is to make the bait run straight. I recently tied on a Norman Deep little N that ran to the right when I didn't want it to. Bent the line tie until it ran straight. Lizards also makes a good point. Sometimes you want the bait to run right or left depending on the target-you can make them so the will run however you want them to run.

you line up the hook directly over the wire. Look down the spinnerbait or buzzbait, and take note if the hook is off to one side or another from the wire that you tie on to, and then bend it back so both wires are parallel.

Kewlies thanks JB, I have one or two that are running to the side, and were running to the wrong side to boot. Do they tune like cranks in respect to the direction you tweak them in to correct their run?
