Pouring your own rubber lures...
Do any of you guys know anything about this? Is it possible to re-melt rubber lures back into the liquid to shape them into something else...just to practice / mess around with? If so, how hot does it need to get up to, and how would you go about getting it that hot? Oven...microwave? Thanks for any suggestions

Check out www.jannsnetcraft.com for all the supplies you'd need.
Here's an article (sort of) on pouring plastics. http://www.jannsnetcraft.com/Content...stic_worms.htm BB

And read this: http://www.tackleunderground.com/for...s-newbies.html
In his video I don't think that he stresses safety enough. Good ventilation is needed, the plastic should be about 330 degrees and will burn you to the bone, and and water will make the hot plastic explode. Those are only a few tips and one of the reasons I don't ever remelt plastics once used. Another reason is each manufacturer and each type of bait has a different type of plastic, salt content, softner, etc. so you will have a very tough time getting them back to what you want. |
