Stupid St. Croix...
This morning I decided to switch the line on my St. Croix Mojo Bass rod (7' M spinning). I couldn't decide between fluoro or braid. I figured both would have their uses. So I grabbed the extra spool that came with my Supreme and wound on some 6lb mono backing. I wanted to use 20lb braid, but all we had was 30. I figured it's only 8lb mono diamemter, it'll be fine.
After spooling it up, the line looped around the end of the rod. As I was untwisting it, I noticed the tip was messed up already. The braid, just from spooling it up, was starting to rub away at the tip. I don't know if it is just the black coating or if it's going to dig into the tip. My first thought was to run to Net Craft and pick up a Fuji SiC tip an replace it. But I'm thinking this will most likely void my warranty, and since the rod is new, I'm hesitant to void a 5 year warranty with with about 4years 10 months left on it. I don't really know what I was expecting from an 80 dollar rod though... BB

Can you return it to where you purchased it or contact St. Croix?

After a closer look, It seems like it's just wearing the black finish off the guide. I'll be watching it carefully and if it does start to wear the actually guide, I'll send it back. Since I bought it from Tackle Warehouse, I'll probably have to go through St. Croix.

Ya, you'd better not use up the warranty for that. Good thing it's only the coating though!
Is that the spinning rod or casting?

I also have a Mojo Bass flippin stick with 65 lb braid on it. No problems with the guides at all. Though I will have to go check them closely now...Thanks a lot, BB144.
