Another A-rig question
I fish mostly in Missouri and they have a 3 lure law. Does anyone make one of these rigs with just 3 arms? I've looked but haven't seen any.

Maybe you could just buy the 5 wire and snip a couple off. On that same note, have you checked with KS on what is legal. We were told by someone in the KDWPT that we could not use a 5 wire harness even if the hooks on the baits were clipped.
They went on the tell us that we could use spinnerbait blades or other attracter type attachment, but that baits with or without a hook would be a violation. A buddy of mine came up with a two wire rig and calls it the K-rig (Kansas Rig), it is a simple looking rig. I played around with one and added a spinnerbait blade to it not sure how it is going to run but anxious to try it out. Have a few more ideas if this does not pan out, but looking for suggestions.

I called KDWP and they told me if you used one it better not have more than 2 arms with hooks coming off of it. Not sure they had any idea what I was talking about but I think I will play it safe and not use one in Kansas. I was fishing a tournament on Truman last year and the largemouth were schooling and I caught a quick limit on a swim bait. Got me wondering how well that rig would have worked.

Personally, I gotta agree with those states. I think the A-rig is overboard. What is really depressing is to see how many folks are throwing those things now! I have not succumbed to that fad and have no intentions of doing so. Even If someone wins one of the tournaments I fish, I will walk away with my head held high knowing I lost to something like that and not a real technique!

Sorry Bob, I wasn't asking for opinions. Only if anyone knew if they made a 3 wire rig.

Everyone and his brother are making 3 rigs for 10-12 bucks, even on ebay.
Dont buy a 5 and cut any off buy a balanced one, they come with wires together merely spread according to instructions. |

Check a local tackle shop in Missouri. They'll have em, or you can buy an A-rig with detachable arms. I just took a peek on tacklewarehouse.com and Nichols makes a three hook A-rig as well.

Think clearly before tossing one even what you or some of you consider finesse.
Many states including Tennessee count blades as a teaser bait or bait. Tavorys 2 rig is a legal 3 rig here, add another blade be illegal, you can have but three lures with three hooks, more than 3 lures including teasers 1 hook, meaning cali rigs arnt legal, with several extra teaser blades unless one removes several hooks.3/3 5/1 hook. There is a way to have 3 lures here with spinnerbait blades and that is if blade is attached to lure as out of the pkg it came in sort of like a roadrunner for crappie. So here its not really an option to put spinnerbait blades on other two arms. Its 150 dollar fine per illegal Arig in possession (not actually using) so best leave that 5 arig in another state. |

Hey no problem Bob. I can't say that I am really for them either, I have serious mixed feelings about them.

Here are the 2 I most commonly sell in the store. The bottom is a Super G 3 Rig and is 9.99 and the top one is a Fishing Systems rigs where you can take and put anything you want on top and put something different if you want on the back such as a rattletrap and it's 14.99 .

Tav that is how I know did call them,if in doubt do, do so.
That top rig that has one set back yes nice to have one so but in this state(tennessee) you cannot add a two hook rattletrap along with two other hooks, its three hooks total. And if you placed a three hook jerkbait on one arm the other two better be empty,so why bother with an a rig when fishing multiple hooks.3 baits limited to 3 hooks regardless of amount of baits.Spinnerbait blades are teasers here and counted as a bait, unless blade is attached and comes out of the pkg that way. It is a decent fishing tool but very easy to use one illegally.Like Tav said call your dnr. You can always toss pink in the pads and under bridges. |

They explained it to me that it is a packaged bait that came together therefor it is one lure. That came directly from TWRA and is what they are saying is legal here. I asked so does that mean I can throw 3 rattletraps because they all have trebels. They said. "yes it is legal because they all come in a single package therefore we consider it a single bait.

My bad, do understand the pkg concept, you are correct. They explained the blade concept in same manner if it comes out of the pkg so.
I also called them but did not ask about crankbaits. Possibly because cannot imagine losing three 1 oz lucky craft to three stripers on same cast, and like my back as it is. Last edited by lilmule; 03-13-12 at 10:02 AM. |

haha for sure. i wouldn't throw a LC on one lol. But yeah I am not selling anything in the store that can beat me or dad in a tournament that they got from me lol. I have ordered a few 5 wires for people going down to bama but just don't want to fight everything carrying things that aren't legal. It truely is amazing what I have learned about this industry since opening the store. I thought i knew about fishing but I'm only 25 and for sure know that there is so much more that I can learn and really I don't know much lol

I know lol I have sold 8 Duckett 7'10 Micro Magic Rods just for the Rig. It's crazy, I have taken an entire wall and devoted it entirely to the Rig and everything for it lol
