Different Ways to Rig Plastics
What are the different ways to rig a plastic? (Pictures would help) And what is the appropriate way to retrieve them?

Hello Nick.
There are basically 2 ways to rig plastics, others exist but to start you'll want to use either of these two if your new to fishing plastics. Texas rigging and Carolina rigging. For Texas rigging (or t-rig) check out the excellent video by the sites creator - http://www.bassfishin.com/video-tips/texas-rig/ Check this article for Carolina rigging (or c-rig) - http://www.fishin.com/articles/georg...arolinarig.htm My own opinion, Texas rigging would be your best start - it's the easiest to manage. I'm sure someone will follow with pics if necessary. Some other considerations for plastics would be, color choice, type, and retrival. For color choice, the general rule is clear water = lighter color bait and darker water = darker bait. Type of lure is subject to opinion and conditions of where your fishing. Retrieval may depend on preference or the conditions as well. Some do a slow steady crank. Others prefer hopping or twitching it on the bottom as they reel it in. Hope this helps. Good Luck and happy fishing! Last edited by vabeachbass; 06-23-09 at 10:08 AM. |

The only other way to rig soft plastics that I would check out is the wacky rig. The best way to rig it is a wide gap finesse hook through the middle of the worm, sideways. Just type wacky worm rigging into youtube and you should find everything that you need.

theres also the Drop Shot.
I wouldnt recommend this to someone who just starting bass fishing. Its a finesse tactic that requires a minute or so to rig up, but it also requires its own specific tackle. The one i started with, was T-Rig, and use it everytime i fish. When using it try and get a decent selection of worms to take with you everywhere. when i go, i work all my fave. colors in a spot, then move. I recomend the 7.5 Grape Shad by Culprit as a good easy worm. Also the Pumpkin Seed Finesse worm by Zoom. Those two have caught more fish than anything else in my box. i started with the grape shad and caught a good many fish last year. If your still interested in the drop shot, kevins got an exellent vid to watch. http://www.bassfishin.com/video-tips/drop-shot-rig/

MrP. I'd have to disagree with you on the dropshot not being good for beginners. I think overall it's a fairly easy rig to set up and fish. While it may work best with specific tackle, most techniques do but can still be fished on a basic setup. Really any spinning combo, as long as it's not too heavy of a power, will work good, and even a light baitcasting set up will work, you'll just probably have to use a bigger sinker to cast it ok.
Anyways, looks like everyone's got all of the basics covered, T-rig, C-rig, Wacky Rig, Dropshot. BB

yeah, but drop shot, for me, takes more time to find fish, and work then the T-rig. The only reason i deter it, is that beginners may get dissapointed and not stick to it, or not fish.
After knowing, that T-rig works, and how to work it, is when i started trying dropshot.
