Trolling motor problem. Bad collars
I've owned a Motor Guide trolling motor for 4 years and I've been very pleased with it except for one important nagging issue. That being the height adjustment collar. It's a transom mount style motor for my jon boat. There are two collars. A tension collar and a height adjustment collar. The tension collar is metal and very strong. However, the height adjustment collar is plastic and has cracked twice in the past two years. Replacing this collar is a pain as you have to dissassemble the motor head to access the shaft to get the old collar off. I'm wondering if anyone else has had any issues with the same collar and whether you came up with an idea on how to correct the problem other than replacing the old collar with a new one. I just don't trust the original collar design now.

I would check hardware stores for the 2 piece metal(usually aluminum) collar that is simple to replace without pulling the motor apart. You may have to drill and tap it for the bolt with a t-handle.
