Default Trailer Size

Will a trailer for a 15' boat safely tow a 12' boat, or does it need to be exactly 15'?

You may very well have to alter the orientation of the bunks, but otherwise....yes. In fact I tow my boat, a 14'er on a bass tracker trailer made for a 16' boat. It took some real fiddling to get the bunks to hold the boat secure as I want it. But dont be afraid to use nylon tiedowns anywhere you can.

Also take note of the bow-stop. The trailer might have been designed for a v hull, and your 12' might be a flat bottom. Its just a matter of looking at the two pieces and injineearing a solution.

Okay okay. What work goes into adjusting the bunks?

Eyeball it. If you take pics, we might be able to help. Some bunks are made adjustable up/down, but for this drastic an alteration you might have to figure a way to get the bunks closer together. You might have to get creative here, use a little imagination.

Alright. I'll get back to yall when I find a trailer. I've seen some 14's on craigslist. Just wondering if they'd work.

Didn't realize you didnt have the trailer yet.

Just keep in mind, but with some work you should be able to figure out something., In a world where people make trailers from scratch tubing and old axles, you can make something.
