Carb Rebuild

As some of you may be aware, I got a boat from my uncle that had been sitting for 2+ years. I got the old gas out and put new in (with seafoam). Still wont run more than a couple seconds. I have to pump the throttle a couple times to get it to fire again and then the same thing. Wife is throwing a fit about paying $90 to take it to marina

Anyway, I was wondering how hard would be to take the low speed jets (Laser suggested this may be the problem) out and clean them? If this doesn't work, how hard would it be to rebuild the carbs myself

I am an Engineer and am very good at taking stuff apart and putting back together (and it works afterward....to prevent the wise cracks

)

I imagine you can find a service manual (not owner's manual) for your engine online. Hopefully, it would include the parts and procedures for rebuilding your carburetor. Then again, some of those manuals really suck. They might consider something like rebuilding a carb a basic mechanic's skill and not really document it. If that's the case, you might be better off letting someone else do it. I've botched up more than one job I was sure I could do even though I had never done it before. (I usually do pretty well though

)

Yeah, I found the service manual and bought it so I would have it anyway (all 548pgs. of it). I was thinking of just starting with taking the bowls off and cleaning everything up and go from there. It doesn't run the way it is, so what do I have to lose

I will let you know what I find.

I rebuilt the carbs on an old Johnson without any experience and it worked afterward. Wasn't too hard to do at all, just buy the rebuild kit. Only thing I can remember being a little tricky was bending the float so that it was in the right place.

Should I do all 4 carbs or just the first 2 since those are the low speed carbs and the ones I believe to be having problems with? Should I do one at a time and see if I can get her runnin?

Two of them were pretty dirty. I put it all back together and she purrs like a kitten

Feels good, now just need to get her in the water.

Well well Nater. Jumped in an got your feet wet did ya. One thing I wanna add is dont change any of the linkage settings on the carbs. They gonna be real close after ya clen up the carbs. Also being that thats a 2=2 motor ya dont wanna get that outta sync. So how is she running???????

Things have been crazy with kids starting school, wife starting new job, birthday partys...have not had a chance to get her in the water yet

Supposed to be a nice weekend so I WILL be at the lake!

P.S. I didn't mess with any settings.
