Bow Mount Depth Finder
As some of you may have read, I have been asking/posting questions lately about a deptfinder to mount on the bow of our boat. We will probably be mounting it either on the aluminum base plate in the bow, or on the front casting deck. I know the transducer should be mounted on the TM, but I need help decideing where to put the unit, and what exact unit to buy. Here is what I am shooting for so far:
Thanks, -Lunk-

LL, I've heard some people say that you may want to have the same brand up front as your main finder. That way you won't have to re-learn how to use a different brand. Also, if one goes out you could swap them around. Just a thought.

I used to be a lowrance fan, but with the advancements by humminbird I really like the new stuff they've been putting out..I just picked up the 997c SI and now I use the 565 up front..the 565 is a great unit and the oversized viewing screen is really nice to have onboard and runs about $160 or so.

I think I may just go with the same one I have on our console; an Eagle Fish Mark 480.

Well, it looks as if it will be this one, (If mom allows me to spend my check on it...).
What will I need to mount this transducer? How should I mount it? Pictures are highly appreciated! -Lunk-

Well, Dad thinks it would be best to wait until we find out if we like the one we have on our console before we buy the same one.
Is one on the TM really that better? Dad doesn't think so... -Lunk-

The reasaon is here the lakes are really deep so you fish the rapidly changing shorelines .I broke a few transducers while fishing them mounted on the trolling motor. The transom mount is less likely to run aground because it its higher in the water.I am not always correct ether. C-Bird

Well, it looks like I have a few choices.....
1. Put our old, Eagle Magna View, (P.O.S.), on and save-up for a new one... 2. Don't use one at all until I save-up... 3. Take some $$$ out of my bank account for either the Cuda 242 or an Eagle Fish Mark 480.... Is it really worth one on the TM? Should I save-up for the top-quality one? Does one on the TM truly make a difference? -Lunk-

When I am fishing without the use of a propely mounted locator I feel like I am fishing with my eyes closed. When the transducer is mounted to the rear of the boat and fishing in the front you are already the length of your boat away when casting to it. When I am fishing deeper water pinpoint accuracy is a must due to you are fishning a specific piece of structure such as a tree or a rock.

Thanks, Dirk.
It seems I can't take any money out of my account right now, so we're going to mount our old Eagle Magna View until we can find a better on Can somebody please explain to me how to mount the transducer to the TM head? -Lunk-
