Trip of a lifetime
Hi there fellow bassers. I am new to the site. Just wanted to share a rare fishing trip with ya. I recently caught a five bass limit that weighed just over 37 lbs. This is my best trip in 47 years of bassin. These were the two biggest at 10.3 and 10.1 lbs. I thought I was on Lake Falcon! This spring has been a really great year here for both numbers and size of the bass. I have had about a dozen trips where I boated over 80 bass a trip! A bad trip has been about 20 or so. This area of the huge La. Delta has really taken off a few years ago when the Corp of Engineers completed the world's largest freshwater diversion canal. The channel brings freshwater directly from the Miss. River about 5 miles and then dumps it into a huge wetland area about 4 times the size of the Everglades. This fresh water is sent into the Delta to help stem the loss of wetlands caused by saltwater intrusion.
This is only about 2 miles from my house. The first lake that receives the river water is called Lake Cataouache. The average depth of this lake is only about 5 feet, and it is a grass fisherman's paradise ( full of hdrilla). If you love topwater bassin, frog action, buzzbaitin, etc- you'd love this lake. The Bassmaster Classic will be in Alabama next spring, then on this Delta again the following spring. The launch site,( Bayou Segnette State Park), is located only 4 miles from this lake. Since January, there have been over 100 bass weighed in exceeding 8 lbs. I do not know how many that were caught and not weighed in at the two launches that serve this area. The largest bass caught this year was a 13.8 lber. I think the Classic weight record will fall at this one. Then, my bass paradise will be overflowing with wide eyed bassers- lol. |

bamabassman- My mom's folks all live in Mobile, thats where she is from. I remember years ago fishing the causeway and all the rivers coming into the bay with my cousin Bryant. Also had great times on Dalphin Island gigging flounders and fishing for speckled trout.

Assuming rock lets me in on the secret, that is...
