Default Anyone up for a goodie-bag swap?

Got this idea trolling around on the Michigan Sportsman Forums. The basic idea is to get 5-10 people to sign up for a goodie bag swap.

Let's say you get 10 people. You pick a theme - for instance, say "Fall Bassin' Goodie Bags".

1) Each person goes out and finds some kinda' goodie that's not-too-common, and is somewhat consistant with the theme. The goodie shouldn't cost any more than $2-3 dollars each.

Some of the best items might be:
  • Hand made lures which are a little unique and not like a regular variation available in the big box stores (i.e. the infamous "Jointed Weedless Jitterbug".)
  • Hand tied flies or hair jigs.
  • Unique lures, jigs, tackle, rigging, or tools from your region and/or favorite Mom & Pop tackle shop.
The list goes on and on.

Things you DON'T want to get would be:
  • Mass-produced lures or things readily available at any BPS, Wally World, or the like.
  • Live bait - because the stuff will die
  • Really expensive items - no need for $25 swimbaits here.
2) Each person picks out what they'll contribute, and picks up 9 of them - one for each other person on the list (no need to send one to yourself!) You can write a short description about what the item is, what it's used for, how it came to be, where it came from, etc. The story will make it even more special.

3) Send your 9 items, along with $2 or so for return postage, to one "distributor".

4) Once the distributor receives all 10 packages from the 10 people participating, he divides them up and sends back a package to all 10 people containing 1 of the goodies that each person sent, along with a copy of the description from each person about the bait.

Afterwards, we can all give each other the business on the boards about how amazing or terrible their goodies were, LOL!

It could be a really cool way to get some fresh ideas, and use some cool new things that might not be readily available to some folks.

So whadda' you say folks?

I like the idea but I think it might be hard to find something unique and not mass produced for a couple of bucks.

Either way, I'm in too, sounds like fun.

Default Try harder

This is a great excuse to tell the wife you need to travel to the next city over to find something. Heck make something...

Awesome, that makes 4 - we'll see how many we get up to by the end of the weekend (but no more than 10, to keep it from getting too costly), and we'll figure out some dates and ship-to's and what not.

I didn't mean to scare anyone off by the statement about mass-produced products, but I may have been a little too vague.

What I should've said was, avoid sending items by companies like Strike King, Yamamoto, Berkeley, etc., that everyone knows and uses.

However, if there's a home-grown mom & pop type company in your area (or even one outside of your area that just really tickles your fancy for some reason or another) that produces plugs or jigs or soft plastics that aren't a mainstay in our tacklebags, then this is an excellent opportunity to put some "secret weapons" in each other's hands, let us think "outside the box", and maybe try something we wouldn't normally try.

Hopefully this'll help in making your choices!

Cool, we are definitely going to have make some considerations for the person doing the shipping/receiving. Shipping out 9 packages will get pretty costly.

Definitely Jrob - once we figure out who's in, we can also poll and see who's in a central location, has access to some shipping discounts, etc. All in all, it shouldn't cost more than $2 or so each for return shipping - that's about the average for a padded envelope to even the furthest reaches of the ConUS from my office in Detroit.
