Just something to look at when purchasing a new rod.
Just thought I would take a moment and mention some FYI with a grain of salt. I had a guy bring me a couple of rods with busted guides the other day. While we were talking he mentioned his wife had bought him a Wild Carrot stick, the black one. He said he was breaking the line on his hook sets between the 2nd and 4th guide pretty consistently. I mentioned a cut guide and he said he checked them with a q-tip and didn't find any snags. He brought the rod along and we checked it out (Whoever wants to reply with a innuendo can bite their fingers now). I showed him how high the epoxy was and rolling though the bottom of the micro guides. The epoxy was finally wearing down and had a razor like edge that would catch a finger nail and pull cotton. The swab was too big to pass through the guide and catch.
But to return to the intention of this post. Check for epoxy in the guides, especially micros. They sit really close to the blank and most companies use one coat, so they may put it on a little thick. Who knows, it could be the fish of a lifetime pecking on the other end.

If you do have epoxy in the guides, what is the fix? ...take it off and put it back on, or replace it completely? ...or can it be sanded/filed?

I wouldn't recommend sanding due to possibly scarring the guide ring. Anytime this happens on a build, I go ahead and strip it and rewrap it. It doesn't happen too often for me though, I am more on the 2-3 thin coat school. I get less bubbles and cleaner guide wraps with this process.
