Getting ready.
So how is the brotherhood of bassers tonight? Here, it is very chilly and rainy. I'm getting ready to head out Saturday morning for the first time this year, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed. It was nice and warn the first half of the week, but it's been raining non stop since last night and is still raining now. Drove by the lake and the water is high. The temps have dropped substantially from a high yesterday in the 70's to a high around 50 today. Tomorrow night they are talking snow flurries! Then Saturday, when I plan to hit the water, it is supposed to only be in the lower 30's. I'm not quite sure I want to deal with that! I'm not as cold hardy as I used to be.
But I am getting ready regardless. Plus I just might have my new trolling motor by tomorrow night and I am dying to try it out. If it gets to be just plain miserable, I'll just head in. But, sometimes on days like that, when other fisherman stay home and you have the lake to yourself, you can get into some pretty good fish. How many times have I heard it said, the weather was lousy but the fishing was great! I'm going to have six rigs ready to go. The 6 baits I'm starting out with are a lipless crank, shallow suspending jerk bait, deep diving suspending jerk bait, chatter bait, shallow square bill crank bait, and a jig with a craw trailer. That's the plan for now anyways. And of course I will drag along my camera. Maybe take a self portrait of myself with ice crystals clinging to my facial hair. I'm only a week away from a weeks vacation when I plan to hit it for real. But I really want to give it a go before then. You all have a great Friday tomorrow and I'll let you know how things turn out.

Go get um Keith............even with a little drop in the water temps, the longer days and calender are pushing the fish to eat and prepare for the horizontal mombo. Plus I've noticed that on foul days when the book says it's a no go, I often catch a good un or two.

Sounds great, Keith. Hope you get out there and have a great time! We got rain for a couple days and then about 3" of wet snow today, but most of it has melted already. Still waiting for the ice to go...not even close yet.

Here is my starting lineup. Of course, it can change quickly. So many other jigs, lipless cranks, jerk baits, ect to choose from. But this is the start.

BEST of luck Keith!! Hope you get out there and slay em!
'Cause lemme tell ya what, it's COLD here! At least it feels like it. Wind is whipping, and we've had freezing rain for last two days, temps have been hovering right around freezing. Roads are awful that's for sure.. maybe they'll cancel school tomorrow if we're lucky. lol

The 10 day forecast here shows highs only in the 40s and lows in the 30s. I highly doubt that the ice will be off our cabin lake 4+ hours NW of here before sometime in early (or mid) May.

Staying warm and safe is the key for sure Don. I'll be dressed for it, AND I will have my life preserver on for sure. Up here in this very cold water, an accidental dip into the lake could quickly become fatal.

Go get em Keith!!!!
Weather has been pretty crappy here all week. Rained out at work after 4 hours both Monday and Tuesday. On standby since then, and no work. On the plus side, I'd rather have it be too cold for my opening day, than too warm like last year.

We'll be out tomorrow as well. It'll be a grind, I think.

Everything is ready. Picked up the new Troller tonight too. Purchased the Minn Kota Endura Max, 55# thrust. Can't wait to give it a go. I'll be sure to let you know how it works out. Now if I can just get myself motivated when I wake up and it's 32 degrees and a 15 mph wind.

Guys, I didn't go. When I got up it was very windy, raining and 35 degrees. Then it turned to sleet mixed with rain, and then snow. It didn't end until 2 in the afternoon. So I'm hoping to try it again tomorrow. Believe it or not, it is supposed to be in the low 70's tomorrow, but 38 degrees with rain in the morning. So we will see. Typical Indiana spring weather.

Good luck buddy. Heading out shortly here too. It's 40 right now but warming up good as the day progresses. Just waiting for what looks like the last little shower to pass.

We pounded them pretty good yesterday despite freezing our butts off until afternoon. I was surprised. Creek channels and shallower than you might think.

Keith, if you get the chance give the rain a hard push SSW. We need it BAD!
Sunday was my father-in-law's birthday so I took him out Saturday to celebrate and he handed me my backside. We put somewhere around 15 in the boat and I got 3 or 4 and he got the rest. Couple of keepers, a bunch of dinks and had a blast. I got lucky with him. My dad passed back in '02 and he has become a second father to me, a good friend and even better a fishing buddy which is the best kind of friend.

Rod, I wish I could send this rain your way. We have flood advisories posted for our region right now with 3 inches expected over the next 24 hours.
That's great about your relationship with your father in law. That is one of lifes true blessings.
