Down as in down to use or down like to run, either way it has to lock, without lock turn it on and it climbs,or if its laying flat on boat still has a lock bar the rope is on.
All part of that prepping the boat, everything should work.A lil oil sometimes helps, that lock bar gets stiff, even new.

Sorry I wasn't more clear, like I deploy the Trolling Motor and engage the motor and it rises back up out of the water.

Its not locking down same bar the rope is on when down will click in place, oil it and next time you put it down put some weight on it,like as in push down with hand on the top.
Sometimes when stiff to get it loose and free one has to pry the bar with a screwdriver so do carry one,or be stuck down. Its all new will take good pull on rope to raise same with lowering, audible click, some just let it fall down swiftly dont advise that.
After some use it will click easier and lock down mine will now by letting it raise and fall on its own should it not lock.(spring loaded).Normally the weight of itself will do it but not always.

The deployment of the powerdrive models is completely different than that of a standard trolling motor, there is no rope and release. You can check out a picture of one so that you are familar with the model he is asking about.

There should be some sort of a depth adjustment knob that needs to be tightened.

Mumpy, your Powerdrive has the same deploy mechanism as my Terrova. After you press the little handle at the rear, and the motor slides into the water, you should hear a sharp "click". The next time you deploy yours, if it doesn't click, give the head a little nudge forward. If that doesn't work, you might have a broken mechanism. Welcome to six sigma and customer support.

Regardless of how they lock or unlock they all should go click and lock and unlock, when brand new.

Before or after you pry on it with a screwdriver?

Fixed... It was mounted wrong, the Trolling Motor portion wasn't mounted far enough forward of the Poly plastic piece underneath. So I took it all apart, used a saws-all and cut about 1/4" off the end of the Poly Plastic.

All Better.

Good, hopefully you also saw a way to get it to manually work, when jammed.
As for me using a screw driver on my own its used on the movable bar and does no harm, should mine run aground and be under pressure from beneath its the only way to release it.Same thing if one jerks and breaks the rope, did that once as well but shute rope got rotten had it ten years.

Replace t/m cord with vinyl coated steel cable - no broken rope (I hate when that used to happen)
