toad or buzzbait
i went fishing today and tried something new; i tried a buzzbait. but the place that i was fishing had a lot of grass and i could not fish all of the pond. that got me thinkin that i might need to buy some horny toads so i could fish weedlessly over the grass. what's ya'lls thoughts?

Welcome to the forum and absolutely!
Horny toads are well worth the investment. I don't fish them much due to the lakes I fish, but they definitely produce.

both work. there is only one time when a horny toad gets limited results and that is when the wind is blowing.. saturday the bass wanted the buzzbait it was pretty windy out there..had only one slap at a frog..i was fishing the buzzbait around the clumps of hydrilla and over the sumerged hydrilla.. the frog was going back inside the clumps and seeing if they were holed up back in that crap but they were not..

I'm with Reb. The main lake I fish is OVERLOADED with grass. It seriously has a problem. The Horny Toads work great.
PS- What does Reb stand for? |

zooker said that buzzbaits trump frogs when the wind is blowing, but i thought that when the wind is blowing you should throw a spinner bait. is this true or can you throw a top water with better success?

I havent used horny toads yet but the sizmic toad is great, I throw it into open water where there is no grass or weeds, and swim it back a few inhes under water and bass love it.

When the weed cover gets too much for a buzzbait, I also switch to a toad or frog. My personal Favorites are the YUM Buzzfrog and the Sizmic Toad. I rig them weedless with a 4/0 Gamakatsu Extra Wide Gap worm hook.

Although you may think wind will deter this lures action in the wind, a Jitterbug actually works very well in slight chop conditions(5-10mph winds). Try one out when it is windy, especially before a storm or front approaches, bass will go crazy for topwater before these two periods.
