Here's a video of a bass 'spitting pout lure/lures
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpYC4J1f2Lo
I think this happens more frequently than an angler thinks/realizes. More interesting is how many different lures the bass attacks AND how many it can spit out.

This was my take away the first time I really bed-fished for spawners. I was really surprised by just how lightning fast they could take and spit a bait. I wouldn't be surprised if this happens dozens of times a day without us ever knowing it.

After watching that it is easy to see how I can set the hook and get nada after I knew I just had a solid feeling strike.

very good for everyone to watch. i do not know how many bassers have told me that they feel every bass they set the hook on, and my response is "i am sure you do, but what about all those that you never felt or recognized to be a bite?" SET THE HOOK ON ANYTHING THAT HAPPENED DIFFERENT!!! i can not tell you how many big bass i have caught, and there was not a bite, just something very minimal happened. this is why that i fish holding the rod in front of the reel. you have better feel there, and you can run the line underneath your thumb. i catch many bass that the only thing that happened is the tension on the line changed ever so slightly. you can not detect that holding onto or behind the reel. another reason that my use of spinning reels is very minimal. i have tried telling people for eons that if the only bass you are catching are ones you get tick, then you are missing more bass than you are catching. there are more times that the bite will only be something different happened, than when you get that familiar tick. i love feeling that tick, but it is not the norm.
