max speed for your boat
saw capt. mikes thread about max speed for trailers and it got me wondering what yalls boats top out at.
im only runnin a 25 merc. so i top out right at 30 untill i can get a bigger motor. would like to put a 40 on mine, but im not sure how it will run with that big of a motor on it. i have ran 70 in several bass boats and just wondered if any of yall can run much faster than that.

My Mako 22 ft monster with a 200 Merc does 54.3 mph on the GPS and 54.7 on the paddle wheel.
But I had a Gambler GT186 with a Johnson 150 Fast Strike and a big Raker custom prop get clocked at 86.4 by the police.. they never caught me BTW.. Capt Mike

I've heard that before. About a very slight chop actually making the boat faster because it incorporates air like that. Someday, my boat will actually be able to go fast enough to experience chine walk, but it will not today.

20 foot ranger with a 200 optimax and a 25p temptes prop. i have broke 70 by gps with 2 guys, tourney load and a little under a half tank of gas. full tank of gas drops be down to mid to high 60's. plan on doing a little tweaking on here when tourney season slows down and the weather cools off a bit.

My arm can thrust mine at probably a whopping 2-3 mph. It is drastically reduced in a head wind though.

I have been 96.4 in a bass rig and it was AWESOME to say the least. I wont be happy till I finally break into the triple digits. Its a goal that one day I will reach hopefully.
I read this post and thought of something that may help or maybe some of ya'll dont know. Speedometers ver 95% of the time REAL HAPPY. In otherwords they read much more than you really are running. A handheld GPS is the way to go if you dont have GPS in your boat. Thats the ONLY way to really know how fast your going. Oh by the way that 96.4 was NOT with a stock motor.......any speed over 80 ....a true 80 and your not running a stock motor.

18'6" Stratos 150 - 65 GPS on old prop, half tank gas and 2 guys. Now I have so much stuff in there even with a worked prop I can only get 62. Someday I need to take my stuff out and see how it runs, I carry 20+ 3700 boxes or hard baits, tons of plastics, 18 or so rods, spare prop, tools, lots of other heavy stuff.

Isn't that a wee bit fast to work a Spook?
16' Tracker deep-V, 15hp merc. a whopping 9.2 by the speedometer on the hummingbird ff. I doubt it's even that. Bender, how fast were you going on Kent Lake when we fished with ya? most of the time, we were running full throttle and doing about the same or a wee bit faster than you. BB

He finally got rid of his broke down Ranger and got himself a Skeeter ZX200 with a 200 HPDI, I think he can hit around 64, needs the jackplate adjusted.
I think I was going around 7 or so most of the time, maybe 8. |

I figured the little wheel speedometer was a bit off. I guess the boat only goes about 8mph then. I'll remember that the next time we troll for musky.
