extending a power wire on a depth finder
I just bought a humminbird depth finder for the front of my boat. Naturally the power cable running from unit to the battery is way too short. Are there certain gauge wires I need to use to correctly splice to lengthen the cable? I probably need a good 10 to 12 feet more to run to the battery. Thanks

The first thing that I would do is contact Humminbird and ask them. They probably make a cable that is long enough or I would think that they should. I would be afraid that a "homemade" cable would void the service agreement for the unit. Which unit did you get? Please let me know how you like it.
Just thought of something. A lot of boats (bass) have a power source on the front of the boat you can get to. What kind of boat do you have? |

Extending the power cord wont void the warranty. While doing this be SURE and add an inline fuse of 3 amps. 12gauge wire is plenty.
