12' Boat Mod. Help
I acquired a plain old 12' smokercraft last year from my grandparents and fixed it up from what it was what i got it to make it decent to use...and look at for that matter. lol... I would like to make some modifications to it and would just like some ideas on how to do some stuff. I would like to put in small front deck to put a pedestal seat and maybe a radio and livewell/cooler area. It has 3 seats, 2 big and the front small v-seat. Any help on how to make this happen would be greatly appreciated, and I could use any input at all. Thanks alot.
P.S. I'll post a picture of it soon on here. |

I'd be very carefull adding a deck to a small boat such as you've indicated. Too easy to overload it or get it unbalanced. Most boats I'm aware of that have a deck are 16' or longer and have more of a beam than the 12' boat. Those boats are meant to be sat in not on, adding a deck then sitting up high - a wake from a passing boat or windy conditions may put you overboard fairly easily.

BBoogieman makes a very good point. Once you send the pictures we can get a better idea of what to suggest. site unseen, I would guess a small platform for a foot control trolling motor on the front, mount a swivel seat to the fwd bench and flat area in the bow for the trolling motor foot. An ice chest rigged with a recirc pump and filled with a submersible bilge pump and hose suspended over the side, all between the middle and rear bench seat. And finally another swivel seat on the rear bench with a depth finder mounted adjacent to it or on the trolling motor. How's that sound?

I wouldn't try putting on a casting deck on the front. I have a 12 foot jonboat I fish out of and if I stand on the front seat the boat tips foreward.
