Fishing 5/17/11
Weather looked pretty good and wind wasn't supposed to be too bad last Tuesday so my friend Van and I drug the boat out to Perry. Started a little slow with it getting pretty cold that night but once the sun got higher we started lighting them up pretty good. Van stuck the first keeper that was 5 even.
Resized to 78% (was 640 x 480) - Click image to enlarge 2 docks later he stuck a 4 pounder and I stuck a 3 pounder at about the same time, didn't take a picture of mine because we caught several 3 pounders. Resized to 78% (was 640 x 480) - Click image to enlarge Finished fishing those docks and ran to the marina by the dam where I caught my first keeper over 18". Resized to 49% (was 1024 x 768) - Click image to enlarge ran around and caught several more nice fish including a 4 pounder I forgot to take a picture of before I tossed it back. Lots of crappie fisherman out there even though it was a weekday. We ran back to the docks Van had caught his bigger fish on and I caught a 5 pounder off the same dock he caught his 4lb fish off of. It looked like the same fish and was 5 pounds on the nose just like his but mine was missing a piece from the bottom of its tail and his wasn't. Would have had around a 21lb limit, not bad on any lake in Kansas. |

I was stationed in Leavenworth once and I've never caught so many big bass consistently anywhere else but right there in Kansas. I miss fishing there. Is there a fishing exchange program? haha

For a slow start on the year for most guys, the trip and picture reports are starting to make up for it. That's a herd of pigs, Nice haul!

Nice looking bass there bluebasser. I guess it's a good thing for me that we were not in the bounty tournament this week, The pics look like some of those would have beat me this week. For those of you that don't know. Bluebasser and myself both compete in the bountyfishing catch photograph and release tournaments. I took 1st place a few weeks ago and blue took 3rd place. Another Kansas angler took 2nd place that week so the Kansas boys dominated the central division. The next tourney starts on the 6th of June.

I had been catching at least a couple 20+ inch fish every week up until the tournament week, it seemed like anything that could go wrong did. I tried to go to the lake that I caught an almost 8lb fish out of a couple years ago but they were shocking it when I got there. I went to another lake the next day and they were shocking it too! Bad weather didn't help, it was all I could do to manage the 18 incher I entered. I think the 2 bigger fish were probably 20-21 inches, very nice fish that I'll take anytime they want to bite!
