Default Shimano Curado

Hey all. Could someone clear this up for me? What are the differences between all of the Curado 200s?

Side Question - Do you think that the Quantum Tour PT reels aren't smooth? I think they're kind of grindy.

Thanks.

The following Shimano web site has a chart at the bottom that shows each Curado model and the specs on each: http://www.shimanofishing.com/catalo...=1172854498056

For the 200's, it is basically gear ratio, right/left handed.

Jools,

If you can find some of the older Curados, gently used, jump on 'em, especially the following:

200BSF...super nice, 6.3:1 retrieve, long casting. For you regular and heavier stuff. Sort of a silvery green color, as opposed to the pure green of the others.
The regular 200B (darker green than the BSF) is nice too, but hold out for the BSF
There is a 200 in 5:1 that might do well for larger cranks. Avoid the 200 in 3.8:1 unless you throw huge cranks all day long.
The 100B...ahhhhh...compact and tidy, a delight, especially for smaller stuff. Later, you can order a wiffle spool (standard on the Chronarch 50MG) and it drops right in. Wow!

The gripe with the new 200D series is that they added over an ounce of weight to them. Tragedy! They are great reels, quality and performance-wise, but too heavy, well over nine ounces. Weight is your enemy.
Also, if you buy a used D series, be advised that there were some issues with the level wind that required action.
When Shimano fattened up the 200 series, they drove a lot of us into the arms of Daiwa. Once my 'Rados wear out, they'll be replaced by Daiwas or Revos.
If you can find a good deal on a Chronarch 50MG or it's discontued big brother the 100MG...grab!

Good luck!

Uncle Fly

You should be able to find good 200BSFs for anywhere from

Fly Wheel, When they fattened those 'Rados up, Some of the Daiwa people is going to Shimano. The H.E.G. gear system with the beefed up side plates and the double anti reverse system, the Phrase Bulletproof comes to mind ?I don't mind the weight as I welcome the new design. P N J

Duhh. Thanks all. It's just there is a 200dsv dpv and some others. Now I realize it's just a change in gear ratio.

If I'm not mistaken dsv= Salt Water version dpv= Power version, or lower gear ratio and slower retrieve speed.

I thought the same thing. Compared the AC500PT to a Daiwa 153HST and the Daiwa was much smoother.

Well, PigglyWiggly,

You make a good point re durability, although I've never had an older 'Rado break (except the plastic pawl cap when I got over-frisky tightening it, and I replaced those with the metal ones.)
Still and all, for those who realize the importance of lightness as it applies to endurance and sensitivity, anything over 9 oz is too danged much. That's why I do most of my dropshotting with a casting rig...Chronarch 50MG, which weighs less than half of most appropriate spin reels, mounted on an Avid AC69MLXF.
I'm still using (so little as possible!) an AllStar Cheapie Classic GT2 rod for some few applications, and that thing nearly kills me. Of course, it IS a composite rod, so the weight and "recoil" is to be expected. So soon as possible it will be replaced with maybe yet another Lowrider, Team AllStar, or mebbe even an Avid...whatta relief that will be!

Tight strings!

It does seem like an overkill in design, but if your young and looking for the long haul, it might pay to stop buying other crap and invest in the Shimano H.E.G. system reel line up and forget about it. Pflueger has a 10 bearing Magnesium spinning reel coming out on the market this month. Its price was projected to be $99.00, which should become a best seller .I was using spinning gear fo worm fishing, but I bought a G Loomis IMX casting rod for the task to get away from the spinning reel weight.I always said Shimano should have kept the old green 'Rado's and expanded their reel line up to add the new H.E.G. reel line up.Keep track of the new Japanese reel models and you will see what the American reels are going to be in the future.P N J
