Potomac Snakehead
My tourney partner caught this last Thursday while prefishing. Came from under a dock up against a bulkhead, in about 18" of water. Thought it was a bedding bass, water was muddy and the reason it was not immediately identified for what it was. We were going to leave this fish for the tourney, but watching it he noticed the unmistakable "snake skin" pattern when the fish moved a little. He pitched a baby brush hog to it and this thing went berserk when the hook was set. It was close to 10 pounds maybe a bit heavier, but it put on one heck of a fight. I did not remove it from the bag, it was so slimy, but I put my size 14 feet in the photo to give it some reference as to size. Largest one I have personally seen landed. Very aggressive strike, if you ever get to the Potomac target them for part of the day, they are tasty table fare as well. This fish is also called a POTOMAC PIKE by capt. Mike.

They will be our newest gamefish soon..
They just can not be beat for the challenge to angler and tackle. I foresee creel limits in the next 4 years. Capt Mike

Darn it ... I can't open the picture.
Mike ... I don't know if they'll ever put creel limits on them. They are still a fairly new invasive species and no one know what the final outcome will be. |

I'd love to spend a day fishing for those brutes. I can only imagine what fun they are on a line.

I have tweeked and adjusted about five baits designed just for Potomac Pike. This year I imported 10 baits from Thailand to test in the back woods of the Potomac.. I feel certain that I am on the right track to up my catch ratio up to 80%.
