That will definitely work.
However, there is a another solution. Pick a reel like a Sahara, a Symetre, or better, and you won't have to worry about this irritating issue. Why? Because even Shimano instructs you to spool line onto the reel just as you would a baitcaster. Why fuss around? Incidentally, I have spooled my "lesser" spinning reels as a baitcast reel and have never, ever had a single problem I have another use for a CD case lid, ie, the other piece. I use it as a low tech testing tank.
