89 octane question (Help Zooker please)
I have a yamaha 1989 50hp motor.I have been burning 87 since i bought it a couple months ago.But yesterday i needed fuel while i was on the lake so i pulled up to the pump at a store on the lake. All they had was 89 and 92 octane so i used 89.Well at the end of my fishing yesterday. My boat stated cutting back alittle at full throttle. So today when i went fishing i fueled up with 87 octane. But there was still 89 octane in the tank around half a tank.Today i could really notice the cutting back and idling like it wants to cut off a few times it did.Loading the boat on the trailer it seemed like it didn't have the power to go on there. My question it do you think i may have a fouled plug since i changed the octane. If not can anyone give me there opinion on my problem thanks guys.

The octane is not the culprit bud. I gurantee this. Either you go bad fuel or the fuel was one of the new green fuels. First hing to do is giver her a good dose of Seafoam. Most likely will clean it up and get her bck again. If after the Seafoam dose she doesnt start to act right holler ack and me or zook will oint you in the right direction

ok now let me say this that yamahas are tuned and timed for 84-85 octane gas. always have been always will be.. jumping to 89/92 octane gas has the oppisite effect then one would think.. the high octane gas will load up the cyclinder walls with unburnt carbon.check out exhaust ports there should be very lil build up of a sooty nature..
the #1 thing to do in your situation is to get 87 octane in the tank add 3 oz of sea foam. run this gas out. THEN replace your plugs-it'll run like crap-.. i run 1 oz of sea foam in EVERY TANK i burn of 87 octane.. i had seen them scrape 3 pounds of unburnt carbon build up out of yamahas that were running high test gas.. i recomend you use sea foam or ring free in every tank of gas.. $61 bucks a gallon at auto zone.. zooker

Thanks bothomas i followed your suggestion and guess what it was the plug wire lol The other day when i got home with the boat i was so aggravated.I had a flat tire on my way home from fishing.Well that was no problem. The problem was i have a 2003 trailblazer and the stupid spare tire hanger would not let down.So i had to pry and beat until the cable broke.Well after a hour and a half i was back up and running. When i got home it was dark and i decided to look at the boat in the morning. But in the mean time. I asked for some help to give me a running start .But luckly it was the plug. Now my other problem is getting a spare tire hanger thats a only a dealer item $$$$$ sometime you just can't win for losing
