Crankbait rods
My buddy I fish with is looking for a crankbait rod. He uses a stiff rod and has been losing a bunch of fish on it and I recommended a crankbait rod. I've been using a G Loomis graphite rod made for cranking for 7 or 8 years or so. I think it costs around $200 bucks these days and although I like it, he doesn't want to spend that kind of money.
The last glass cranking rod I used flat wore me out it was so heavy. Am I behind the times? Are they making glass rods now that aren't too heavy? So, recommend a rod for him, if you would. Something moderately priced that's not too heavy. Please be specific--Name brand, length, action, price etc. |

I am on a limited budget, so this may help if your friend is as well. A couple years ago I bought two BPS Extreme rods with the medium action in 6 1/2 fot length and never looked back. They are a good rod for the buck. I've had very good luck withy Extreme rods. Some guys would prefer the 7 foot lengh, but I'm not very tall and feel more comfortable casting the 6 1/2 foot length.

I agree with Keith on this one, BPS Extreme rod. I have the 7' woo daves crankbait rod (M) and it works great for me and at a great price

I use a spinning rod for cranking right now, but I looked at the AR rods at BPS today, and they seemed pretty nice. definately lightweight. I'm sure the Shimano ones are good as well.

Jigger, I used to use a composite AllStar crankbait rod and it worked fine, but have since pretty muched switched to all Falcon Rods. I have several 6-6 and 7' medium action Low Riders and haven't lost a fish yet. I take that back-I lost one in February not because of the rod but because I had loosened the drag way up and forgot to tighten it up. My point is that a medium action graphite rod should work just fine.

Shimano's Crucial and Compre lines have cb desigated rods. I don't think they're glass rods but they ought to be lighter than traditional glass rods. I have held the Crucial cranks and they are very light.
