Shaky Head Rod Choice
For shaky head fishing, what rod action & length do you prefer? I'm currently using a Falcon 6'7" MH XFast. It's okay, but I wonder if a longer rod might be better. Any thoughts?

I'd think a 7' - 7'2" M fast would be best, you'll get a nice long cast, good tip, but still good hook setting power.

7' - 7'3 Medium-power, Fast to Extra-Fast action.
Cumara would be excellent

I got a new shaky head rod this year, it is 6'10" Medium Extra Fast. I like it so far but for the past several years I used a 7' Medium Fast that was good too. I tend to use heads on the lighter side though, mainly 1/16-1/4.

I use 7' 2" Shimano Crucial Drop Shot and I also use a 7' 4" Dobyns Champion Extreme Shakey Head/Drop Shot. Both rods are excellent medium action rods with a good backbone.

Looks like most of you prefer rods around 7' for this presentation. I, like Bender, fish light shakey head jigs. Guess I'm not too far off the mark with the 6'7". I'll keep using it until I see something that turns my head. Thanks for the feedback, guys.

I just got my first shaky head bass yesterday and I use a 7 medium powered casting rod. I got a good feel for it and don't see a need at this time to get a technique specific rod. I don't anticipate using jig heads heavier than 1/4 oz so I think this rod will do just fine.

I use a 6-6 MH Falcon Cara with 30 lb braid and a fluoro leader. I use a MH action rod and the braid because I have to make an "active" hookset and the rod/line combo allows me to get a good hookset. To me the length is not as important as the backbone of the rod.
On the flip side I use a ML Falcon dropshot rod for dropshotting since I don't need to make a hookset like I do with a shakey head.

That's the same model I use (if it's a lowrider). For me, it's the perfect shakey head rod.

CamG...It is the Lowrider (Clark Wendlandt Weightless Worm). Caught a few more fish with it today. I'm getting to really like this stick, more than a lot of my Cara's! I'm actually thinking about buying another for finesse fishing.

Geezer, I have 2 of those rods: One is dedicated for weightless T-rigs, the other is dedicated for wacky rigs. Always rigged and always on the deck. I throw those 2 rods more than all my others combined, and I have a LOT of rods in the boat. Like you, I absolutely love them.
