What is your #1 technique that you use to catch bass
If you could only fish one thing for the rest of the year to put bass in the boat, what lure and or technique would you use. This would have to be a bait that would work in early spring as well as late fall. So tell us what lure you would use and how you would fish it and on what?
Mine would be easy for me a no-brainer so to speak. It would be a 6" Sink-N-Fool fished weightless with a gammy 3/0 EWG hook tex-posed on 30 lb. suffix braid with a 6 1/2 ft spinning rod. With this setup I can skip cast back under docks and trees and get where most guys never get a bait to. I just let it sink deadstick and watch the line. It has worked for me from early march with water temps in the hi 30's to late summer with water temp in the low 80's. So what would your #1 technique be?

My go-to in almost all conditions is the Case madtom, or any other catfish/goby/sculpin imitator, on a shaky head, dragged along the bottom.
For big fish, well, my Ebay username is swimbaitgringo. For my own enjoyment, it's topwater all the way! |

yup
Has worked to my advantage many a time wonderiing then not taking me seriously. After inventing the dbbb (double barrell bass buster)
I was at East Lynn(W.Va) lake one day, being a drawdown lake it had exposed some sandbars one in particular was horseshoe shaped and about 11 in deep for 50 ft across the entrance to shallow to get a boat in but the bass were in the small pond out of cast distance, just tearing them up as hadem coralled. So in my endeaver to catch bass I tied a dbbb on the crig enabling me to reach those fish that were very active in about 2 ft of water, nosooner than it hit had a hookup. Limited out that day with many asking how so my standard answer from then on weather or not it twas the bait of choice I caughtem all on a crig buzzbait.Ps it can and or will work at times just as a jerkbait on one will, just most wouldnt be caught dead using it. And you arnt mistaking it those two have painted delta blades -watermelon Last edited by lilmule; 01-17-12 at 05:36 PM. |

I can and will throw a rat-l-trap anytime of the day and year... I seem to have very good luck with them... maybe its all mental. I have a friend that does the same with a chatterbait.. but if I had to pick one for all year around... I would either throw a rat-l-trap or a texas rig pit boss.

A jig with what ever trailer I want. Good year round, swim it, buzz it along the top (with the right trailer of course), hop it, twitch it, shake it, shimmy it, crawl it, drag it, dead stick it... Cold water, warm water, murky or clear. It don't matter. Jig hands down.

I'd have to go with a Texas rigged 7 1/2 red shad culprit worm. When all else fails, drop the worm over and get something going.

If stuck with only one lure it would have to be a 3/8 spinnerbait, white skirt with silver colorado/gold willow blades. I'd be throwing it on a 6 1/2' MH/F casting rod with a 6.4:1 ratio casting reel spooled with 17 pound Sufix Seige.

IUbass, All's well in Summer Shade. Hwy 90 from here to Burnside appears to be done, at least for now. Everything to Burkesville is good and it makes the trip to the Hollow much better than before.

It's impossible to decide. Probablly a chatterbait for me. I can fish it over grass like a spinnerbait, through lilly pads or stickups like a crankbait or let it fall to the bottom and either hop it like a jig or yo-yo like a lipless crank, rig with a horney toad for buzz bait action and finally, stick a hollow bodied swim bait on it and fish it like I would a scrounger head. A very versitle lure, not just for chucking and winding.
