A day I won't soon forget.
Because I hung into the biggest bass I've ever caught, only to watch him shake loose next to the boat while my partner messed around too long with netting it...........I could'a cried, and I could'a tossed him outta the boat, I could'a screamed and jumped outta the boat myself....lol.... but all I did was grit my teeth and think about the monster that just got off. I've caught a few bass in the 6# range, and this guy was alot bigger then any of those....I dunno what she might of weighed, but I'd guess she was at least....Oh who knows!....I couldn't help but think about the recent "I feel stupid" thread about that time...lol.
I know my partner felt bad, and so did I, but unfortunately thats the way it goes sometimes.....It was not all his fault, as I was excited and my adreniline was pumping so I probably didn't keep good tension on the fish while I watched him fumble around with a cigarette and then extending the handle of the dip net.....By that time several seconds had gone by and that hawg musta got a second wind and one last jump outta the water and she was loose....only she just sat there for a couple of seconds....He made one fleeting effort to net her at that point but missed and my trophy was gone. On a positive note, we did catch several nice bass that we actually did get into the boat....lol.....The lakes water level was really low so alot more stumps were visible....Most of the bass I caught fell within the lakes 13-16" slot limit, with a couple like the one in the picture that went about 17.5"...For some reason I could not get a bite on a crankbait so I went with my ol'standby, and started catchin bass...In fact every bass I caught yesterday came on one of Kory's black/blue jigs with a trimmed down Ragetail Craw trailer....I've found that to be a killer combo on nice size bass. So all in all we had a good time as always....I might of lost a hawg, but thats more reason to go back and search for her again....Plus i've got something new I can rag my fishin buddy about on occasion....hahahaha....."Remember the time"?.....He's on vacation this next couple of weeks, so hopefully we'll have a few more stories to share before thats over....lol. If I hold it close to the camera maybe it'll look like the hawg that got away.....Ok, maybe not....lol....And "Yes" I'm still barefoot bassin...lol

Man it always sucks losing a big fish.
Or, In my case ,not even finding big fish because I suck. I had a good Charlie Brown ''Auuuugh''! yesterday after missing a good one. Still a fun trip it sounds like and still a good looking fish!

Really sorry that you lost a big one buddy, really sucks. I'm glad that you did catch some fish though, and better yet you caught them on my jigs. Great pics and I hope you stick that giant again soon.
By the way, I like the Rage Tail Craw as a trailer too. I catch a lot of fish on the Black and Blue jig with an Okachobee Craw Rage Tail Craw for a trailer.

Tough luck on loosing the big one...I think we've all been there and of course in our memories the fish always gets bigger.
Wish I could be barefoot bassin right now. If i tried that I'd end up loosing toes due to frostbite! |

Well, we always hate to loose a big'en, but think of it this way. You got to enjoy the hookup and the fight, you got to see her, and you didn't have to land her to set her free. Loosing a big bass doesn't bother me as much as it used to since I know I'm going to release her anyways. I get pleasure from just knowing I fooled her into taking my offering, and knowing I did "something" right that day. If she comes off at the boat, as long as I got to enjoy the fight and see her before she comes unhooked, I'm a happy camper.

That's all you can do. You'll get her next time. I'd be surprised if there is anybody here who hasn't experienced this. I have (since my own big losses as yours) envisioned diving in right after her if ever I should be placed in that same scenario, and I'm not kidding.

You reckon they make a crankbait or jig that looks like a dozen roses?

Hmmmmm, not a bad idea.....Maybe I could airbrush a crankbait to look like a chocolate covered crawdad....Heck I"ll even put a pink feather on the trailer hook as a bow....lol.

Not too sure about planting a Jimmy Houston kiss on a bass my friend. It would be like planting your lips to the lips of Steven Tyler, hahahahahaha
