An Interresting Day.
Not knowing what to expect after two storms rolled through our area yesterday afternoon and last night, I went out with 9 rods rigged and ready for about anything. Turned out I only needed 4 rod, lol. My first bass came off a LC Popper. That was the only surface action I had all day. The next 3 bass came off the spinnerbait Secret Santa gave me recently. But after 9AM there was NO bass to be found in shallow water. Bright blue skies and a front drove them into deeper water. From then on, all the rest were caught on crankbaits. Using a Strike King 3XD, StrikeKing KVD Squarebill 1.2, Strike King Series 5, and a LC 2.5 Squarebill, I caught 15 in total, although non of them were more than 1 1/2 pounds. I caught 3 that were about the size of a large cigar! I call those Monica bass. I did have one real nice one on my StrikeKing 3XD that Secret Santa gave me, but it came unbuttoned before I could see it. The storms didnt seem to have any effect on the fishing. But the front did. But working deeper water with cranks got some action. I did have an accident today. I impaled my finger with a treble hook from my LC popper. The point burried itself nearly all the way through my finger. So I forced it through the rest of the way, snipped off the barb, and slid it back out. My first time for ever doing that, and I hope, my last! I did land a nice 20 pound anchor though! In perfect condition too! Brought that home with me. You can see the lure I snagged the anchor rope with. It's one of my favorite crankbaits. StrikeKing Series 5 in Citris Shad. So glad I didn't loose it. Getting those hooks out of the rope is gonna be fun though. Ok, that my report for the day. Time to order pizza!

I don't believe you ruined a perfectly good Lucky Craft hook just to save your finger. Next time just grab the hook with pliers and give it a good yank.
OK, interesting info Keith, looks like we going to get hammered here any minute, it's dark and rumbles can be heard in the distance. Going out early tomorrow in the kayak, so I'll put some of your post to use - but do not intent to impale any part of my anatomy with a hook. |

Truth be told, I hate the thought of getting hooked, been lucky so far but I wouldn'd yank a hook out either.

doesn't it amaze you how a bass can throw a treble hook. and how hard it is to get one out of your skin, boat carpet. or anchor rope. woke up to t storms here. went back to sleep. glad to hear you had a good day

Good snag on that anchor! You might want to check it to see if someone engraved their email address

Glad you got out and caught some fish Keith! Sorry about the hook, that sounds pretty painful. Just curious, did you hang the rope far enough toward the end to pull the anchor with your hands or did you pull it part of the way with your rod?

Keith, nice job of finding the fish and catching a bunch of them. Sorry about the impaling of your finger, but good to see you were able to get it out.

Sounds like your secret santa has decent taste in lure selection
Nice report too, you're day sounds almost as frustrating as mine was. I rented a boat for 4 hours and a hour later I left. I feel your pain on that hook in the finger (granted mine was in the leg). |

Isn't it funny a bass can throw a hook? Next time you hook yourself jump in the water and thrash around a while. Maybe the hook will come out by itself.
