Scott, pick out whatever kind of boat best suits your need. The one thing that you NEED to do is learn how to swim. Life jackets are great but you still need to know how to swim. Take lessons, local pool, lake or whatever. Besides that it's good exercise and when the fish aren't biting, it's great to jump off the boat (whatever it is) and go swimming.
