Question, have you ever tried to bass fish with 4 orther guys in the boat with you? I think your best bet is to get a pontoon, take off the sides and make one big deck.

btw, it'll be mostly 4 people, but my mom may tag along! and the third being 8..... but they grow! Also would it cost less to get two smaller john boats rather than one big one? Or one bass boat?

I think the new Ranger Z522 might be rated for 5 people.
Honestly, I don't know if a lot of bass boats are even Coast Guard rated to carry that many people. You might have to look more at multi-species boats like Lunds. I think 2 smaller boats would be less expensive. |

my 68 glaston is rated to carry 4 ppl, i put a double floor and a deck in, so i'm never carrying more than 3, but built it to carry two.
4/5 people in a boat is bad buisness. But i'd be cheeper for you to find a couple cheep jonboats and deck them out. i have a thick aluminum one that most of the rivets are welded. 12ft is good for my buddy and i to fish, and dosnet hang too far off the back of the long bed with a tool box. go for the jonboats, get some swivel seats and put a little 8 or 9 hp on the back and you'll be good to go.

Bama brought his 20' Cajun over last weekend, and the four of us fished in it all morning. With Bama, his wife Mrs Bamabassman, me, and my wife MississippiGal, it got kinda tight.
For you, I'd vote for a pontoon boat. For a regular bass boat or even a cruiser like a Crownline, which suck for fishing, big enough for 4-5 people, you're looking at probably at least a 22' or bigger, and I doubt you could find one cheap enough for what you're looking for.

Bama, I don't think we had any problems in guntersville with the three of us. We've fished with htree guys in our Tracker 16'. A bit tight, but everyone was careful so it worked out. I think you'd be better off buying a package. good fish finders, a good trolling motor, a good motor could costs you 5k alone.
Look on craigslist, but be careful of scams. That's where we found our boat. we got ours for 4500. w/ engine, two fish finders, stereo system, TM, yet only one battery, lol. BB

I would get a pontoon for when you take out 4 or 5 people and a jon boat for 1 or 2 people.

3 is the most comfortable in most rigs... i dont like being with 4 people on a boat.. on a pontoon 6 is a crowd to me.
and i really felt crowded on the deep sea trip. 70 people.. but 30 were inside asleep to get away from the sea sickness

Thanks allot guys! About the pontoon boat.... I was looking online at Lake Okee boat rentals, I found a pontoon boat to rent for 75$ a day, I showed my dad..... he said that no, I asked him about buying one for fresh water, he said it would be better to get a bass boat because of the fishableity! Right now a two 10' jon boats are looking better than all three. Since we only fish ponds (about 90% of the time) we'd only need to get two troll motors, but if we where to go to lake Okee or Osborn, we'd need a out board. Sorry, in the last paragraph I was kinda just thinking aloud! + btw, about how much to carpete two 10' J boats? Wanna advise one?

Boss, if you look around, a lot of times you will find some in a neighborhood and can get them for $100. Just keep your eyes peeled when riding around. I have fished out of 10 & 12' most of my life. I would go with the 12' fo sho. Unless you plan on standing and pitching and flipping a lot or scaling back to 5' rods. If not, somebody is going sling a serious backlash from snagging the other's pole or the person. I am sure some will disagree but it's just my .02 and 2' means a lot.

What about a Carolina Skiff.
4 or 5 is not difficult for C Skiff. It is one of those boats you buy stripped and add stuff your self. I suggest a tiller motor later down the road. One piece at a time. http://www.carolinaskiff.com/skiff/kits.asp Capt Mike

4 -5 holy cow. That's how much we put in a 28 - 30 ft. offshore boat and that get crowded.
I like Capt. Mike's idea. That or a few canoes work really well, especially if you want to get on the salt flats that we have alot here in Florida. |

Thanks guys!
Bubba! I asked my dad about it, he said when I get the cast (at least 250-300) He said we could go looking around, I'll also keep and eye on the classifieds in the news paper!

I have a 16'2" Skeeter and I can fish three people in it but it gets tight. If I am at an electric-only lake or if I don't need to run the big motor then it isn't a problem. A 20' boat should meet your needs unless you intend on going on long runs. Look on craigslist for a used bass boat and have a mechanic look at it with you so you don't inherit someone else's problems. Lots of people are selling their rigs now and there are great deals to be had.
If you are REALLY concerned about fishing with 4-5 people your best bet might be a bay boat like this one: http://www.rangerboats.com/flash/gal...id=5526&gid=38 I would be surprised if you could not find a used one in the $5k range. |
