FLW on river
Guys were out this past weekend preparing for the upcoming FLW event on the Potomac river. Saw a couple wrapped boats in Quantico creek. Most didn't stay long. Spoke with one pro on his way into the creek. I had caught 10-12lbs and a 4-5lb snakehead....nothing he was looking for other than a small limit. You need 14 lbs + per day to get a check. 50 lbs over three days might get you close to a 4th day on the river.
Wish I could post some pictures......... |

3d I got to thinking and after the smoke cleared a thought emerged.. What will they do with all the snakeheads caught. Big fish fry on Sunday?
I wonder if the pros are instructed to kill them.. It is not against the law to just release them alive or dead.. but dead released seems like a waste of good protien. I wonder.. Capt Mike

I could have sworn I saw recently that it was the law that they must be killed.
Also against the law to possess a live one. |

Do you think that any goverment organization is going to mandate you kill any THING..
No it is carefully worded that if you keep one is must be killed. No verbage about releasing it at all. Killing a fish and throwing it back is like killing buffalo for there hide. Wastefull and shameful.. Capt Mike

I re-read it. You are correct, there is nothing said about killing and putting it back. It is very trickily worded.

PVA last year had a $10 price tag for each brought in and $100 was paid for the largest.
Don't know what they do in FLW. Didn't catch one the last time I fished the Everstart. I can contact JB from Potomac Mix and ask. I believe he's fishing this week. A lot of guys don't mess with them and just shake them off. Meet us at the weigh in on Sat at Nat. Harbor??? We've got our Kids Derby tomorrow and some of us plan on going after to see the weigh in. Kind of crazy that there is no launch at the Nat. Harbor.....tournament guys have to launch down at Ft. Wash, Bell Haven, or Gravely etc. |

IKE leads after day three. He knows the Potomac pretty well and if he has a decent day tomorrow - it's his! GO MIKE!

Bobby Lane lead at the end of the day yesterday. I wonder if the FLW guys hate seeing the BASS guys leading the Open tournaments?

Bobby's been fishing the FLW events on the river for years so it's not new. A lot of the BASS guys fish FLW and the reverse. I love it when a "rookie" fishes the Elite series but has been fishing the FLW and winning for years.
Ran into Ike back in 1999 fishing the rip rap at Leesylvania in practice when he was a rookie in the BASS Open. He too fishes the FLW events on the river quite often. |

Yeah, I guess the FLW guys are used to different people fishing the open events. It is pretty funny to hear David Walker and Andy Montgomery called rookies and see their reactions.

3dkicker, try this to see if you can post pictures. Go to any website and find any picture you want. Right mouse click on the picture and select properties. There will be a box with information about the picture in it. Highlight and copy all of the text in the "Address URL" information area. Come back to the the forums and paste the entire address to your message. then immediately in front of the address type that should work for these type pictures. If this works we can walk you through the hole image hosting sites method.

Thanks but I didn't want to add another step with the image hosting site deal. Too many id's and passwords for me to remember as it is. Probably would work just fine. Everyone will just have to get by without seeing my great pictures...... And I do have a great one for Bama too!!!
I've been in contact with Kevin and he's tried a couple things to correct the problem but hasn't been successful. He's away on a "business" trip and will try to correct the problem when he returns. |

Took better than 44-02 to make the top 10 (so 50lbs was a little high) Took better than 28-02 over two days to make top 20 (not bad) Took 24-11 to win a check for two days (so only took 12-06 each day to cut a check - once again a little high) Two good days on the river??? I could have done that...I think |
