As I sit hear writing this, I have a nagging ache in my right hand and wrist, which will no doubt be an issue after I hit the water tomorrow morning. One never thinks they are going to have "old person issues" when they are young, but it's happening to me now and I don't like it. My hands and wrists both have arthritis, as do my knees. Most days now, after just a few hours on the water, the pain is such that I can hardly grip a rod, let alone cast.
![]() ![]() Now I know there are other folks in here that can relate. There are more than just a few old farts here as well. Isn't that right Bassboogieman?! So I thought since so many of us are probably facing similar issues related to aging, I would bring this issue to the forefront and see just what others are doing to combat the issues of aging as they effect your fishing style and how your dealing with them. As for me, I am grinning and bearing it, with the help of meds. And the meds are not really all that effective as of now. I think I will discuss this with my doctor next time I am sitting in his office eyeing the nurse taking my blood pressure.

well my mom always said "getting old ain't for sissies". you will see that you will get to know the "ITIS" family even more as you get older. i just accept it and move on. meds help. and surgery when it is the last resort. you do what you can till you can't. my fishing time as slowed down. it takes me twice as long to mow yard. dig and work in garden. . hate the cold and the heat. plan trips around restroom stops . you get the point. i enjoy every minute. of everyday. and not get pissed off as much. waste of time. i fine that be able to fish is a lot better than cacthing fish

"Getting older, aches and pains."
As they say, it beats the alternative.

'bama, you forgot Viagra for the "dinkitis"...
I'm on Naproxen for the arthritis, usually 500 mg per day, active days I sometimes need two. But it helps. That joint pain is NO fun at all, but a little exercise and the anti-inflammatory drugs can get you through your day. Last edited by bassboogieman; 08-09-13 at 09:49 PM. |

Well, I'm on my way to the lake and the one hand/wrist is very sore already. Took some Ibuprofen and 2 arthritis pills. I'm hoping that makes things tolerable. There is a HUGE bass out there who can't wait to make my wrist ache even more! hahaha Who says one can't dream, huh?

Uh it is progressive, nothing takes it all away one just gets used to it,there is however still hope as long as you desire to eye that nurse whos taking your blood pressure.
1500 miligram of ibprofren tore my stomach up long ago.Now just old arthur strength asprin. Other things take some of the pain away due to those places hurting more, and then again the old plumbing system and ticker both have had a hard workout-life goes on,id prefer it be with me than without. Decisions decissions I often go as a non boater as cannot run troller in chop all day without a rest and one might draw a non boater who wants to run 40 miles, nor can I rig quickly or even work on minor problems for long climbing in and up and down a few times makes me want to rest. Meanwhile our better half is also aging and work load at times becomes more so around the house. Last edited by lilmule; 08-10-13 at 07:30 AM. |

At 56 and after treating my mind/body like a lab rat/punching bag for the first 30+ years I have managed to escape unscathed except for ulnar neuropathy in my right arm/elbow;hand. Not a big deal most of the time, but gripping a spinning reel for a couple of hours will turn my right hand into a hideous claw that will scare small children and temporarily put my wife "off her feed"

Many adults spend their lifetime trying to regain their youth.
Fella by the name of Ponce De Leon comes to mind. |

I'm only 30 but I am constantly dealing with nagging aches and pains. I go to the chiropractor 2 times a month, or at least I am supposed to. As long as I keep up on my chiropractor visits I feel pretty good, but if I skip a visit or two I can sure feel it in my back and legs. I have had pains in my shoulders, arms, neck, and almost always my back and left leg. Every time I go to the chiropractor I leave feeling like I am young again and I am good for a while. I have noticed that as long as I keep my visits on a routine basis then I can space them out longer. If I let it go for a month or so then I need adjustments a lot more often. Not saying a chiropractor will cure what ales ya, but I would be in a hell of a bind without mine. Mickey Mantle said it best when he said "if I'd have known I was going to live this long I would have taken better care of myself when I was younger".

I'm gonna try and shine a little sunshine and you can tell me to stick my sunshine where the sun don't shine but, there has to be a good story behind every single ache and pain.
The way I see it, if you ain't got 'em, you ain't worked or played hard enough. Don't get me wrong, they're still a pain (literally) to deal with and I sure don't like 'em either.
