Apparently im clueless?

I bought a Garcia Silvermax. I found something that i have never seen before. There is a switch on the top right of the reel. When in the on position it forces you to hold down the spool release. When in the on position it reengages the spool release. Does anyone have one of these reels or heard of this. If so WHAT IS THIS FOR.

It's called a flipping switch. Hard to explain if you're not familiar with that technique.....let's you engage the reel without having to turn the handle.

I have a flipping switch on a Shimano reel.

Some love them, some never use it even when it's there.
I use mine but it's a fifty-fifty shot though because seeing I'm only having one reel like it I flip with what ever I have on.
So habits become habits.
Could I get by without....probably.
Is it handy, yes if your pitching a lot.
Very handy when flipping cause you don't have to switch reel into your left hand before engaging the reel.

When flipping frequent bites come on the first toss and a lot of times early after jig hits water or punches through mat. By the time you switch hands to engage, bass has already spit it back out.

Give it a try....you may like it.
If you have numerous rods along in your boat many an angler will have a rod ALWAYS set up to pitch and is setup ready to go.

I've never used a flipping switch, but can push up on the thumb bar of my Daiwa reels to reengage the reel. It's nice to be able to engage the reel without turning the handle sometimes, especially when flipping/pitching. It always trips me up when I try to engage my few non-Daiwa reels this way though, lol.

I have a lot of rods now so I'll take this under advisement and report back on Sunday with the results. I spooled 30# braid so this might be my go to.

I'm the exact same way. I don't use that feature very often but it's nice to have when I need it. It's irritating when you try to push the thumbar up on a reel that isn't a Daiwa.

While some of mine have them I use the ol thumb then turn handle after setting the hook.
I use the thumb to feather the flip so it there already.
