I saw this on Fishing on the Edge with Iconelli, he was claiming this is a new technique, but actually this has been around for about 6 to 8 years already. There was an article in in-fisherman about 5 years back about this, but they called it Bubba-shotting. I just had a trip on the misssissippi river and tried it on the last day with a yum 4 inch craw for smallies.

Power shotting can be great! It works best with heavier line, rod, and a baitcasting reel! I really like dong it around hyrilla. The weight is on the bottom and the worm is above. Keeping the bait more in the open, and from getting burried in the hydrilla like a Texas rig would.

I was kind of doing this before I even knew that there was an official named presentation for it. Common sense led me quickly to the fact that when I'm drop shoting (by far my #1 presentation) around some nasty stuff that would over power my DS setup quickly, I Went to a heavier rod and leader. I tried using a baitcaster but have settled on a M or MH 7ft rod with a spinning reel. For me this works just fine.

I recently picked up drop shoting on my local reservoirs it has caught me some fish but nothing big yet and when I saw big I haven't even caught a keeper on it yet but I've only fished it 2 times last week it was good for 7 dinks
