Default Happy New Year to the Monkey

I had a Cabela's card good through tomorrow that gave me employee prices on everything in the store, so I went and restocked on a few things I found I was low on when I reorganized my tackle recently.

The hooks and weights shown here were 25% off and everything else pictured was 20% off, so I got $60.00 worth of stuff for $47.09 (21.5% savings). It was a fun way to start the year.

Nice haul Dean! I'm going to have to get myself another Mouse. I think I bent my hooks out too far. It walks and rolls amazingly well and is great for open water but rolls too much for fishing over cover. It hangs up too easily. I think I will keep the one I have now, as is, for open water and get another for fishing in nasty stuff.

I had great luck with them last year. See this thread for details on how I thought they worked. I caught my top 3 LM and 4 of my top 6 LM on the 3.5" brown mouse you see in the picture. I need to use them more next year.

Bottom line - I found them to be durable, cast a mile (even into a strong wind), and had a great hook-up ratio with them. I did have to "re-thread" them onto the hooks quite often after catching a fish, but I can live with that. I have seen feedback from others complaining about their lack of durability, but I didn't seem to have that problem. I am only buying more because I gave my original ones to my dad last year after I had such great luck with them and then I could never find the brown 3.5" size in stock at the Cabela's here for the rest of the summer.

I have never adjusted the hooks on any of them that I have used. I haven't had any trouble with them in the cover I have fished, but I only used them in light mats in May and then in lily pads or other sparse cover the rest of the year. I did sometimes have to use more of a "twitchy" retrieve so they didn't roll so much and that seemed to work ok for the "my" lake.
