Every fisherman's dream
I just got a call from the golf course manager about the golf course I live next to and he said that they are remaking it and about 25 yards away from me there is an empty lot that connects to the golf course and the bought it so there will be a HUGE pond there around febuary so I will have to walk like 15 seconds to get to a pond!!!!!!! How do bass get in those ponds and how long do you think it will take them to get in it?????

Ya need to have all your fishing buddies bring fish of all kinds and stock it, if the owner agrees. Yes, there may be some sick fish that come into the water, but if your starting from scratch, at least its free.
Don't expect them to get very fat for a few years ago, with no bait fish present, but at least its a start! |

If it's not fed by a creek, you need to worry about bait before you think about gamefish.

depends on the size of the pond as to how many of each type of fish you put in there. here's how the kentucky department of fish and wildlife says you should stock a pond: http://www.kdfwr.state.ky.us/farmpon...vPath=C101C136
Don't put any carp or channel cats in there though cuz all they do is muddy up the water and eat all the bluegill fingerlings, making for extremely small farmpond bass. OH, and most importantly, don't add any crappie because they easily overpopulate small lakes/ponds and also eat a lot of the baby bluegills and other types of forage that young bass need for growth. As long as there's no competition from other fish species, then the bass should grow pretty large. |

Stock it with shiner and bluegill, wait about a year, and put some small bass in. They'll get big quick. Feed the bait real often, and it'll get even better.

Dunno where you would get fish to stock it with, you could try to catch bait with a seine, or get in touch with the dept. of wildlife to find out where to get fish to stock with. You'd probably need to clear this with the Golf club guys.
If you were gonna catch your own, I wouldn't say anything, i'd just do it, but go to a Southern States or something and learn all you can about pond management, they need to eat too, find out about beneficial bacteria, plankton, vegetation, etc. |

I'd check to see if your states pond stocking program is free and will they do the new pond, they do here in ohio, but they will be small size bass, bluegill, probably a few inches long.

Don't go to FWC for stocking since they won't because
#1 its private property #2 if they stock it, it becomes open to the public Don't use a seine net since they are illegal to use in Florida but instead get a cast net, learn to throw it and gets some shiners. |

That's very possible, but down here, birds tranfer the eggs more often than not. No one has to stock it, the birds will . But that will take awhile. Why not catch some fish from one of the existing ponds, and take them there. As for food, plenty of lizards, frogs, big a$$ bugs can supply some of the food needed. If you really want to get some big fish, put in a feeder, however the food will cost a few pennies after awhile rotfl.

We have been stocking my buddies pond for about six months now and we have got some pretty nice ones in there already. Most in the 2-3 lb range but we have a couple over 5 lb. All we did was catch em and put them in his pond. I dont know if he put some baitfish in there or not but you can see them swimming all along the banks. You shouldn't put crrappie in there also because they eat the bass eggs preventing alot of new bass.

I really doubt that. Florida is one of the best places in the U.S. to catch big bass, and probably the best state for saltwater fishing.....
