What do you think the alternatives are? Thats always the question. Do you think it is actually possible to economically compete for manufacturing, all the while maintaining "pesky regulations" that are well intended?

Economics is a study of scarce resources and tradeoffs. This isn't about morality, not really. The corporations do exist to make profit, they could not exist any other way, the jobs they do give americans are derived from profit. If we make it unprofitable to exist in America, I dont see how we can really blame them for wanting to go elsewhere. Its a tradeoff that we have agreed to in legislating outcomes that we desired. We cannot just simply make the economic disincentives go away, however. The real world is full of decisions and choices where you cant have both.

Meh, I've seen this post about the last president we had on these boards, and it's the same in the media. Whomever is currently in power takes all the jabs from the other side, statistics get strewed, and facts get blurred all to blame the current administration (be it republican or democrat). While the other side makes big promises (they can't or will not keep). Yet when they get elected the cycle just resets itself, all while this great country continues to circle down the toilet bowl.

I think it's time for a reset in American Politics, to get away from the two party system, Impose term limits on senators, do away with lobbiest, and speculators, get rid of lifetime payments and benefits for our politicians, and start putting people in office that don't worry about their parties agenda.

In sort of the words of the famous Joker "This Country needs an Enima".

Politics has come to resemble the mania in sports. Just try to talk sense to most auburn fans - it cant be done. Every possible inference in their mind goes in favor of Auburn, and against Alabama. So by the time you're done talking with them, you realize that they think that Saban grinds up small children and uses them to feed his roid laden team. Just little inferences can build like that into...denial...insanity, what have you.

Politics should be different. I thought we were all on the same team. Maybe because we view our team as agendas, and falsely think that there is a pure agenda followed by x candidate, is why we get so defensive and suspend logic. And then because nobody is really very informed, but everyone wants to pretend to be, they take other peoples words in matters that they are not knowledgible about.

I'm not arguing for the mushy middle. Some things you cant split the baby on. But while we have policy disagreements, lets do that in the real world, with real facts, and disregard all the political tripe. Cause I dont give a damn were hussein was born, I only care about what he is doing right now.

There is an unwritten "social contract", spoken, and written of, discussed, debated, and argued over, but it is one all people generally abide by...and corporations are "people", aren't they?

Big business or even small business DOES NOT create jobs. The middle class CONSUMER creates JOBS.
The middle class CONSUMER creates JOBS - OVERSEAS. Because when given a choice, most consumers make a purchase based on cost. It's a fact American made goods are more expensive than comparable foreign made items. Reasons are many, but disparity of wages & benifits for American workers vs those for foreign workers, and government regulatons in the USA are at the top. That a product costs more if it's made in USA is the reason when you go into any large store, be it Walmart, BPS, Target, etc, virtually all the merchandise is NOT made here. American business relocating production overseas is a direct result of consumer spending, in order to compete and give said consumer what they want. So yes, all consumers not just the middle class create jobs as a result of their buying habits - just not here in the USA.

As a young American Voter and a non party affiliated voter( i vote for who gives me the best chance to survive at this point). I can really only put in one opinion on this. I pay for Welfare, Food stamps, low income housing, and low income college grants. I make a very good living not because of what i was given but from what i worked hard to achieve. I still pay for college. I pay my mortgage every month. I pay for bills bills bills. Yet i cannot receive any of the above mentioned government assistance because i chose to make a better life for my wife my 1st child yet unborn and I. With all that being said i still get up everyday and go to work with one thing on my mind. Where the #@$% did i go wrong. There are 8.9 million unemployed people who will sit at home and enjoy my hard work, some deserve-need the help many DONT. I bet allot of you are the same way talk about a WHAT THE #$%^ moment. My advice is free and rarely taken but i would suggest instead of all of us sitting here voicing our opinions we write a letter to our piss poor elected officials whatever your state may be and let them know that they will not be receiving your vote this November. This way instead of all of us wasting our breath on a site that largely agrees with our opinions, we might be heard. Fat chance i know but its a thought.

Yes! Shop local, Buy local. If everyone just makes a 10% change in their buying habits(buying U.S. made goods), we would create millions of U.S. jobs. The easiest way to do this...with the food you consume, hit your local farmer's market up.

Just sharing,
Putting aside politics and personal opinions.

The (republican controled) house of representatives have again voted to repeal 'obamacare'.
33rd time

And for the 33rd time it will definitly die in the (democratic controled) Senate.

Cost of all this worthless waste of time......
Cost $24 million dollars a week to run the house, I assume an equal cost to run the senate.
House has spent 2 WEEKS on these votes. .. $48 million
Senate probably spent equal time. .. $48 million

We the people spent same 2 WEEKS working

Cost of midterm elections...house

democrates $119 million
republicans $ 79 million

Cost of Wisconsin recalls this summer...senate $ 31 million
(This doesn't include the $60 million spent on the Governer recall )

TOTAL $325 million (not including the Gov. crap)

How many of the house and senate members will be effected by this waste of money, other than the generous paychecks they have already gotten......ZERO! They aren't participating in 'Obamacare'
Jobs created out of this money.....very very few!

Lastly, the house has 49 working days left this YEAR, I assume the senate has similar.

Total working days left for the year......... 98 working days. (assuming 49 for each)

I'm now joining Ron.

WE THE PEOPLE have ot make the change in our government. jsut think what would happen IF everyone in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, would for JUST one day....turn off everything and not GO anywhere, NOT BUY A THING. jsut for 24 hours. what would happen. and i agree with oyu dog, we should buy local......as much as we possibly can. THAT WOULD MAKE A DIFFERENCE FOR SURE.

You have got to be kidding me. You are still blaming Bush for all of this? Look at how damn much money that Obama spent, and you can still with a straight face blame Bush for this? Talk about laughable.

Republicans think every day is the 4th of July.
Democrats think that every day is April 15th.

Hey I'd rather have Thurston Howell running the show than Buckwheat.
If in fact the previous administration put us in the ditch, it looks like the current one did everything in it's power to dig in even deeper. Deep enough that it looked like they were trying to reach China. The socialist' agenda hates free markets. Their goals can only be met by having an impoverished population, a population that cannot survive without the nanny state. They cloak this agenda in rosy buzzwords like economic equality-fair share-social parity. Lazy-worthless-poor pitiful me types will line up at the never ending milk flowing from the gov't teets, until the tit runs dry. What pisses me off is the fact that the gov't teet is actually my teet, and it's getting sore. I work hard for my money and I'd love to be able to keep most of it.

Your overt racism makes everything else you say pointless...

You going to pay more in taxes? You're in the top 2%? Tell me, what does "widening the tax-base", that Romney/Ryan are proposing, mean?

F**K you If Thurston Howell isn't the quintessential rich evil white man then why use him in your post. Racism swings both ways, people like you make me want to vomit.

As I said, the Second American Revolution IS comming, it has to or we are doomed to the status of a Third World Country. The Greeks fell as did the Romans - will we be the next "Great Society" to fall? Those great societies fell due to conflict between the classes in them, very similiar to what we have here in the USA today. I hope we come to our senses before we follow them into history, but the only thing that will save us is a revolution to restore the concepts and ideals that brought on the first one.

YES! Tax-cuts, commitments to two wars, unfunded Medicare benefits program, cost us conservatively, two trillion dollars a year! In a recession, no a depression, in an economic system based on consumer spending, when no one is spending, and banks aren't lending, the only way out, is for the Government to spend, worked with the last depression. Austerity alone, as demonstrated by European countries, doesn't work.
Economics is complicated, and cannot be boiled down to a few slogans. Taxes aren't the whole answer, but either is the austerity recommended by the right. Short term spending in infrastructure, education, and R&D, combined with long-term debt reduction, tax reform, reinstatement of Glass-Stiegel Act, and "entitlement" reform, just to fix the basic economic problems(and that's simplified for you).
Here's an interesting article for you, that might enlighten you on how "austerity" might affect your fishing, and hunting...

When I refer to Romney's wealth, I am making a reference to his ability to connect with the average American, and their plight. When you make a reference to the color, or race, of our President your point is...?

"Republicanism:The unshakable belief that those priveleged from birth, achieved success all on their own."

So people that are born as "average" Americans are in some kind of "plight". A plight that requires affirmative action paid for by hard working "average Americans and administered by the Federal Gov't Hogwash

I wasn't born priveleged(?) in any way shape or form, neither were my parents. I began working at age 14 and have been working ever since. When my schoolmates were playing and fishing and having fun after school and on weekends and during the summer, I was stacking hay in the barn or mowing yards or painting fences or whatever. I paid my way through college by working two jobs, rarely getting more than 4 hours sleep and living off 1000-1500 calories a day. I have never asked the gov't for a penny and now all these years later I will never have to.
The US Government was never intended to be as big and powerful as it has become. It's much like elephantitus of the testes. Once they become a certain size they become a burden unto themselves.

I can relate to everything you just said...except the whole "1000-1500 calories a day" part.

But seriously, there were times in my young adulthood that I didn't have enough to eat, sometime with several days between very meager meals. Though you wouldn't know (or even vaguely suspect ) it now, that's the truth.

And yet somehow, it still didn't turn me into a Democrat.

I'd rather starve on my own two feet than feast on my knees (wow...that sounded really weird).
