My New To Me 08 Bass Cat Sabre
Fellas, I have not been around much other than checking on my phone from time to time. But I am going to take a minute and post some pics of my new to me boat. It is an 08 Bass Cat Sabre with a Mercury Optimax 175 Pro XS. It has a MG Tour #82 TM and a Lowrance 520c at the wheel and a 510c on the bow. I got to fish out of the boat one time, but no slime on it yet. I will try to put up a few more pics later, but my computer time has been limited lately.
I did learn some lessons about a glass real quick. It is not like an aluminum fo sho! When I test drove it, they just sent me out with Flea and 2 of the boys. I rode a wheelie the first 2 times I tried to take off. Most aluminum I drove, we just eased up on the pad. I told Tanner to hold on and for Flea to hold on to Carson and laid the hammer down. I still need to work on my trimming, but the lakes are pretty limited in size around here. But I did reach 51 in an 84 acre lake, with about 50 of it being boating zone. The dealer took it out and took a video and got to 65 before he ran out of lake. I don't have plans of traveling that fast, but it is nice to know it is there. It is different fishing in and will take a little getting used to with the trolling motor peddle being set so far forward. But due time and wheel time, I will get it figured out. So here is the Black/Blue Bruiser:

Trim it under to take off,its slicker so faster, but wont take the abuse of the old alum, rest is seat time.As far as the peddle if not in a well move it where you want it.

BASSCAT! Seriously - nice boat and with the 175 it will do 65 no problem. I have a good friend with a Sabre (150 merc) and he runs low 60's NO problem. Basscat is at the top of the heap when it comes to customer service, they excell as do most small family owned businesses that take pride in what they make. Good luck with her, many happy years of fun and fishing. Dayum, I just looked again and you have a dual axle trailer, don't see them under an 18 footer very often.

Congrats for sure.
I like how you said you won't be traveling that fast, etc....Oh yes you will! Welcome to a whole new world coming out of an aluminum rig. The fish may not care but you'll sure notice a difference. |

I am learning things for sure. I know if you don't have a 5 pin flat wire, it is awfully hard to back up on amy kind of incline with the trailer brakes locked up. I had to run to walmart the other night and splice a 5 pin because they didn't have an extension. The dealer didn't have one and I wanted to get it under the carport. And while I can pick up the tongue and move it back and forth, it will NOT push to the side with the tandem axle. But I am learning. Hopefully me, the boys and momma will get plenty of time this summer getting everything worked out.

That's definitely true....good luck turning it by hand. Unless you're in a VERY slick, smooth carport, it ain't gonna happen. If you need to move it, there are different kinds of jacks that have wheels on them....they let you jack up one axle so you can turn the other one.
And I forgot to mention, there is a way to disable the brakes...there's a spot for a pin somewhere that keeps the actuator from engaging the brakes, but I have no clue where you would put said pin.

Bass Cats have recessed trolling motor pedals. In fact they were the first I believe to go to recessed trolling motor pedals. Awesome boat buddy, like I said holler at me if you have any questions.

That's awesome Bubba Im glad to see you got to buy a boat. I know you've been looking for a long time now. Good luck with it, I'm sure it'll see plenty of slime before it's all over.
