I find that fat females really do like chocolate.

Man, I though WTL had acutally posted some useful info. Then I read his posts.
Anyways, I've been wondering the same thing cause the lake we fish (Lake Mudson..er, I mean Hudson) is not unlike milked coffee. Anyways, if anyone knows how to catch spawing mud bass, I'm interested. BB

The lake I fished 7 times last week was really dirty too. You could only see the beds when you were right on top of them and by that time it was too late. We all had the best luck with a small dropshot, about 4-6" dropper. Find the points, etc. where there should be beds and blind cast there. I drag it back really slowly and if you feel rocks or a different bottom then stop reeling and let it sit. Caught some with the same technique but with a 1/8 oz. bullet weight on a Nories Bug T-rigged.
Also the fish hit dark colors a lot more, tried a smoke and never got a bite. |

Where are you fishing, Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory? I've never fished any real muddy water before, I'd say use dark color baits and work them slow.

Spawn and muddy water, a crawdad colored rattle trap springs to mind. Had this situation more then once, used electric craw I think, fished spawning flats and near by areas. Had great fishing days in the mud, many from 4 to 6 lbs casting into stick ups in 2 to 4 foot water.

its really hard unless you know where they spawn in numbers. I go to scattered lilly pads and run a soft plastic very slowly through them. they bed in the root systems. or in tree root systems. they typically are less cautios in myddy water. its not your typical bed fishing pattern. its very blind just cast and cross your fingers.

There's few ways to do this.I'll just give the lowdown on what works for me.Cast/flip pitch to ANY overhanging branches,limbs,logs..any branch, brushpile or rock/rockpile you can find in shallow water that may be sticking out of the water or barely visible.Even if the water is 6"deep(or less!)I use one of 2 baits and either one will work at any given time.If I can't get them to hit a senko I throw a 4" red shad power worm.
As an aside,I don't specifically target bedding bass.Even when I can see them,I'll back off a ways and make blind casts to the area. You can usually at least figure out the general area they spawn in.Then blind cast/flip etc. the entire area.As Bender said drag your bait back slowly, when you feel a rock just stop it dead. You may have to work the area from different angles to hit all sides of the underwater structure. Something funny happens in areas of a lake near me...It's like the bass(not all) build decoy beds in shallow water but their real bed is a couple feet deeper near the first dropoff. Not on the entire lake,it's mostly in the southwest corner of the lake.
